Fresh off the heels of last week's $4M seed funding announcement in Axios, we sat down with Shared Future Fund portfolio founders Ankit Singhal, Vignesh Karthik and Connor Lee to talk about their AI-powered process of turning CO2 into chemicals ?? Their obsession with cost - combined with what they believe to be the most natural application of AI - truly sets them apart within the field of startups working on bio-based production of industrial chemicals. ?? Super excited to announce Anthrogen (YC S24) closed a $4M seed round a few weeks ago led by BoxGroup and ReGen Ventures with participation from funds like Wayfinder Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, Soma Capital, Ritual Capital, Collaborative Fund (SFF), and Pioneer Fund. We also have a great team of angels including Paul Graham, Kulveer Taggar, Todd Goldberg and Rahul Vohra's Angel Fund, and others! We’re pumped to be working on turning carbon dioxide into valuable chemicals by way of AI-designed enzymatic cascades. Huge shout out to Gustaf Alstr?mer ???? at Y Combinator, without whom this wouldn’t have been possible and to Katie Fehrenbacher for the write-up in Axios: https://lnkd.in/efCDi8yG And, of course, to my co-founders Connor Lee and Vignesh Karthik! Yuri Sagalov, Aneel Ranadive, Byron Milligan, Claire Goldsmith, Adam Rothenberg, Disha Karale, Benjamin Bryant, Tim Suzman, Jason Gray, Dave Messina, Cameron Urban, Max Kolysh, Chris H., Yahya Mokhtarzada, Michael Ma, Dan Fitzgerald, Tom McQuillen, Keely Anson, Matt Kaufman, Sarah Rodriguez, Brian L..

Anthrogen (YC S24) is engineering photosynthesizing bacteria and cascading their enzymatic outputs for low-cost, scalable, and carbon-negative polymer manufacturing. Put simply, they want to turn carbon dioxide from the air into useful carbon polymers. Chemical production is famously incredibly carbon intensive, with crude oil as the primary feedstock. High-quality carbon capture technologies are also prohibitively expensive, with current state-of-the-art solutions costing >$1000/ton. By unifying these two processes, Anthrogen hopes both will take in CO2 from the air while decarbonizing the supply chain to tackle climate change at the root issue. Founded by Ankit Singhal, Vignesh Karthik, and Connor Lee, Anthrogen has engineered the fastest photosynthesizing organism in the world with CRISPR and uses generative models to design their enzymatic cascades. They're starting with starch as the quintessential polymer but will expand to other verticals soon. Congrats to the team on the launch! ?? https://lnkd.in/gN2sxRAm

Y Combinator S24 has begun! Retreat last weekend was great - happy to share Arctic Capture (YC S24) won the title of "Most Likely to Succeed" startup. Does this mean much? Probably not. It's exciting and validating to have this happen but we are still super early in the process. Most startups will be unrecognizable during demo day compared to last weekend. This is a good thing! It's why we joined YC in the first place. The intensity of the work and the warmth of the community is unlike any other environment and enables all of us to grow in some unexpected ways. That being said, winning is always fun ?? Read more at our blog here: https://lnkd.in/eq7GvJq3

Arctic Capture is joining the S24 batch at Y Combinator! Just launched on Launch YC - would love for anyone interested to check it out and show some support: https://lnkd.in/eSM_FNMk We genetically engineer bacteria and use robots to take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere ?? Excited to build alongside Vignesh Karthik and Connor Lee - the best co-founders one could ask for - and Gustaf Alstr?mer, our group partner at YC. Thank you to Justin Wenig, Nicholas Diao, and the rest of the team at Overture for providing the initial funding necessary for our R&D. Our generation has to live with the consequences of climate change; it should be up to us to help be a part of a solution. Follow our LinkedIn or check out our website if you want to stay updated!

Super excited to share Arctic Capture is bringing on two new co-founders -Vignesh Karthik and Connor Lee! They bring a wealth of experience and technical knowledge to help bring our carbon credits to market + do our part for the climate. Vignesh Karthik is joining on as our COO. He's a student at Columbia Engineering studying Applied Math + AI. He's done Machine learning/climate research at Columbia's Earth Institute and will take care of our facility automation and optimization. Connor Lee is joining on as our CTO. Also a student at Columbia Engineering studying Applied Math + Robotics. He's also the president of Columbia's Robotics club and will handle physical facility development. Both were co-founders at Yucca Earth (acq. Arctic Capture) and I think I speak for everyone when I say we are pumped for this new chapter!
