Today, we celebrate Manatee Appreciation Day to raise awareness for the endangered sea cows who are quickly falling victim to pollution, global warming, and hunting. Did you know manatees weigh as much as 1,200 pounds but survive on seagrass alone? And that they have no natural enemy except humans? This day is celebrated to appreciate, learn more about, and protect the bloated bean-bag look-alikes from deadly human activities. You can help by joining Save the Manatee Club (started 1981 by the late singer-songwriter, Jimmy Buffett, and former U.S. Senator Bob Graham when he was governor of Florida). Wa Wa Wa International Waffle Day a.k.a V?ffeldagen! That means waffles for breakfast, lunch and supper, as well as for desserts and drinks. Some form of waffle taste — from Belgian breakfast waffles with bacon and chicken and waffles to waffle parfaits and waffle ice cream sandwiches should be enjoyed. Celebrated in Sweden, V?ffeldagen comes from the Christian tradition, when the archangel Gabriel came to earth and told Mary that she would give birth to God's son. Originally, what was celebrated was 'V?rfrudagen', (Our Lady Day), but in Swedish it kind of sounds like vorfleday, or 'v?ffeldagen'. Over time this tradition has become more about the waffles than about virgin birth. If you can't make the trip to Swededn, Lindsborg, Kansas has a big festival. #internationalwaffleday
