We are proud to announce that Antelope Recovery is partnering with the State of Colorado to bring addiction care to teens. ?? ?? In Colorado... ? Adolescent overdose deaths have more than doubled since 2019, with opioids implicated in 90% of cases and illicitly manufactured fentanyls contributing to 84% of cases (Tanz et al., 2022). ? Over 60% of these fatalities occurred at home with bystanders present, but most received no immediate overdose response (Tanz et al., 2022). ?Nonmedical prescription opioid use among high school students is at a staggering high of 14% (Jones et al., 2019). ? Of those youth who experience a non-fatal overdose, less than one-third receive substance use disorder (SUD) intervention within a month of that event (Alinsky et al., 2020). The impacts of the opioid epidemic in Colorado are particularly severe for Hispanic and rural youth, highlighting disparities in treatment access and the need for virtual care. ? Between 2010 and 2021, there was a 287.5% increase in the overdose rate among Hispanics, which is over 125% higher than among non-Hispanic individuals (Romero et al., 2023). ?In Colorado, there is a 16% disparity between Spanish-speaking mental health professionals and clients (Bailey & Hogan, 2019). There was also a 25% drop in the availability of mental health facilities offering services in Spanish between 2014 and 2019 (Pro et al., 2022). ?Hispanic youth, especially females, have the highest rate of opioid use disorder of all demographics and often lack culturally appropriate treatment (Siddiqui & Urman, 2022). ?Compared to metropolitan areas, rural communities have fewer resources like opioid task forces, addiction facilities, Naloxone programs, and health insurance coverage, resulting in lower rates of patients accessing care (Siddiqui & Urman, 2022). ? The suicide risk for rural youth is double that of their counterparts. The lack of treatment options has lethal consequences for Colorado families. That's why we're excited to partner with Colorado State to create a virtual safety net for these families and move the needle on substance use recovery for at-risk teens. By leveraging technology, we can target underserved populations, deliver impactful care for future generations, and ultimately, extend lifespans ??

Last week I had the pleasure of representing Imagine by Northpoint alongside these amazing women from Redpoint, Charlie Health, and Antelope Recovery at Boulder County Public Health's Substance Use Advisory Group panel of treatment organizations. We got to hear from and speak to families, youth involved in various programs, members of the community, and Boulder County Public Health officials about accessing care and navigating treatment. It was an honor to be alongside these amazing women who represent lifesaving organizations that I admire so much. As well as an honor to share what I love about Imagine and the work we do. Thank you for truly being a community of finding people the right care, helping address the youth mental health crisis, and, as always breaking down the stigma! Still buzzing about how amazing this was to be part of! Shayla Englund Erika Stadsklev Shelby Robbins
