?? California Just Made AI Literacy Part of the Curriculum! ?? The future is here, and Gavin Newsom and #California Assembly Bill 2876 are making sure students are ready for it. Starting in 2025, the state’s Instructional Quality Commission will update math, science and history-social science curricula to incorporate AI literacy. What does this mean? The state's K-12 students will learn: ? How AI works (think principles, concepts, and applications) ? In a recent poll of our Discord community, 51% of students reported that they've NEVER visited their school's college counselor. Our new AI Counselor is for these students. And those who visit once a year. And those who visit once a semester. With a ratio of 385 students to every counselor in the U.S., there's a huge need in education for high-quality support and mentoring outside of the classroom, and we're committed to using technology's best tools to meet it. With just 4-5 quick questions, our Counselor will give students a customized list of safety, target, and reach schools and prompt them to start looking into scholarship opportunities to make their dreams a reality.

What we're obsessing over lately: The Hechinger Report's breakdown of an Oct 2024 study on dual enrollment, from the Community College Research Center. ?? *Reminder: dual (or concurrent) enrollment allows high school students to earn credits for both high school and college. The goal of this public and privately backed initiative is to expand access to college.* Dual enrollment is exploding. But the Hechinger analysis, and work from Kristen Hengtgen at The Education Trust, uncovered concerning stats within the study showing a severe underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic students. Here are the (low)lights: ?? Only 9% of HS dual enrollment students were Black ?? Only 17% were Hispanic Meanwhile, Black and Hispanic students make up 16% and almost 25% of the HS population, overall. As a platform that leverages AI to accelerate all students' success, we're committed to staying close to these issues and ramping up our R&D on how we can help (like our AI-powered Counselor and Scholarship Advisor).
