?? Has fear stopped you from doing something creative? Fear of what exactly? Making a mistake? Doing it wrong? Looking foolish? Being judged? These emotions are very real but they don’t have to paralyze you!?You can resist creative entropy and move through the fear. Here’s a few things to try: ?? Recognize that these fears exist.?Listen calmly to the anxieties of your fearful mind and reply “I hear you, you are correct, all of these things could very well happen.” ?? Make something ABOUT it.?This can be a starting point for some very cool art. ?? Challenge a fear-based assumption.?Do something intentionally wrong. Do something overtly foolish. ? This is no time to let fear, anxiety or shame get in the way of taking creative action! Thanks to Barbara Couto Sipe CEO United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg for inviting us part of this years’ staff retreat. Thanks Linzy George?for making it such a great experience. Noah Scalin gave a presentation about using creativity to connect and stay resilient through change and then everyone got a chance to try it out themselves with hands-on activities! It’s always an honor to support people who have committed their careers to consistently finding new ways to serve the needs of those who are most vulnerable in our community. ?? ?? Chloe Sanders

A powerhouse blues singer, pianist, and entertainer Gladys Bently lit up stages of NYC in the 1920s with her electric performances, sharp wit, and signature tuxedo. She launched her blues career singing at Harlem rent parties and underground clubs, where her deep voice, and commanding stage presence set her apart. As her fame grew, she took center stage at Harry Hansberry’s Clam House—one of New York’s most famous gay speakeasies—leading performances with swagger, tuxedos, and a full chorus of drag queen backup dancers. She enjoyed a long career eventually making appearances on You Bet Your Life and other TV programs with Groucho Marx in the 1950s. At a time when both race and gender norms imposed strict limits on what was socially acceptable on stage and off, Bentley carved out a unique space, captivating audiences with her bold presence and unmatched talent. ?? ?? Who made Harlem hot? Philip Payton Jr. was a visionary real estate entrepreneur who helped transform Harlem into a thriving center of economic opportunity and culture.?Starting as a porter in a real estate office, he absorbed knowledge, took risks, and persisted through setbacks—at one point, he was even evicted from his own apartment. Payton’s perseverance paid off. As Black families migrated north, facing discrimination from white landlords, he stepped in, securing housing and ownership opportunities that redefined Harlem’s future. Dubbed the “Father of Harlem,” his work laid the foundation for a community that became a global epicenter of art, music, and culture. ?? Let's celebrate Black History #CreativeSprint style! ??
