?? ANNOUNCING: The Rivanna Restoration at Riverview Park Project Riverview Park is a staple in the City of Charlottesville. It is home to the Rivanna Trail and offers the City’s only public access to the Rivanna River. However, the park faces significant environmental challenges, including severe riverbank erosion and stormwater outfall deterioration, loss of land and trees, and habitat degradation. These issues threaten both the park's ecosystem and its accessibility to the community. RCA, in close partnership with the?City of Charlottesville,?Ecosystem Services,?Wolf Josey Landscape Architects, and community stakeholders, is thrilled to announce the?Rivanna Restoration at Riverview Park project. The project will improve water quality, increase recreational safety, improve the long-term sustainability of the park, and make the park and the Rivanna River more accessible to the community by: regrading and stabilizing more than 900 feet of eroding riverbank, repairing a rapidly degrading stormwater outfall channel, adding new river access areas and improved trails, restoring native habitats through tree and meadow plantings, and more! This project is made possible through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, with support from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Chesapeake Bay Program, and other funders. Congratulations to all job seekers, employers, and the dozens of providers that have been a part of ten years of Network2Work@PVCC. The model shows that much can be accomplished when we all work together. We also know that there is MORE work to be done. Thanks to the collaboration between Piedmont Virginia Community College, Network2Work@PVCC and the Equity Center, resulting in the recent release of Orange Dot Report 6.0. As the Executive Summary states: Our community has seen progress since this work began in 2011, but there are still too many struggling families. For a region as prosperous as ours, we have the means to build programs and enact policy that helps more people become self-sufficient. The Anne & Gene Worrell Foundation is a proud supporter of this systems change work and we look forward to seeing what we can all accomplish together in the next decade. https://lnkd.in/eArsJux2

?? Thrilled today to receive funding from Press Forward, the nationwide initiative strengthening communities through local news! We’re in great company: 205 small, local newsrooms across the U.S. are sharing $20 million for reporting on communities and regions that have traditionally gone uncovered. Since 2012, we have been on the frontlines designed to support and project a more inclusive social narrative, to promote entrepreneurship, and to be a beacon for art, culture, and politics in the Central Virginia region. A review panel of national foundation and journalism leaders read about how our publication makes a difference right here at home and awarded us $100,000 in funding over 2 years. We would like to congratulate Vinegar Hill Magazine and Charlottesville Tomorrow on receiving Open Call funding from Press Forward. They were selected from a pool of 900+ applications for their outstanding work to address the longstanding inequalities in journalism coverage. We are proud to partner with both organizations and appreciate the work they do in the Charlottesville community. Congrats!
CONGRATS - We’re thrilled to share the 205 local newsrooms that are receiving a combined $20 million today from #PressForward! From newsrooms focused on people of color and linguistically diverse communities to others covering vast rural areas where they are the only news source for miles - these local journalists are filling the gaps where traditional coverage has fallen short. We were so thrilled by the extraordinary proposals—more than 900—that we doubled our initial plan and are supporting twice as many local newsrooms as expected. Americans are stepping up to write a new story for local news. ?? Join us in supporting local newsrooms across the country: Donate to Press Forward's Pooled Fund today, and every dollar up to $5 million will be matched to support local newsrooms across the U.S. Learn more at pressforward.news/grantees.
