The Standard at Seattle has been named 'Best Residential/Hospitality Project' by Engineering News-Record Northwest! Comprised of two student housing #highrise towers and one mid-rise cross-laminated timber (CLT) building, The Standard at Seattle is located immediately adjacent to the University of Washington campus. The towers rise over the hilltop neighborhood and can be seen from all over Seattle. Yet up close on a human scale, The Standard is approachable. Developer: Landmark Properties, Inc.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our 14th annual Trivia Night! ? Not only did we have a blast dressing up as pirates, we raised $36,766 for Food Lifeline! ? Food Lifeline is on a mission to feed people facing hunger today while working to end hunger for tomorrow. The funds raised during Trivia Night will help distribute fresh food to more than 400 food banks, shelters, and meal programs across Western Washington.? ? Our 14-year partnership with Food Lifeline is based on mutual values. We're passionate about designing #affordablehousing because we strive to provide stability and security to those suffering in the US #housingcrisis — and many of those people are also facing food insecurity. ? This $36,766 will make a very real impact in many lives and it was only possible thanks to our generous donors, participants, and volunteers. ? P.S. — Every year we do silly things on video and premiere it during the event as a way to thank our sponsors. This year, we're sharing the laughs with you. Enjoy!

Today was a great day at the 2024 Advancing Mass Timber Construction Conference! Robin Landis, S.E. and I gave our presentation on Point Supported Housing, focused on how to integrate point supported mass timber structures into multi-family housing projects and we were really happy with how it turned out. I also got to reconnect with a lot of wonderful people, both new connections and old friends. Here’s looking forward to another great set of #masstimber focused sessions tomorrow!

We're proud to be one of 2% of architecture firms in the U.S. that have signed onto the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2030 Commitment. We believe that making a public commitment to reach #netzero emissions for all new buildings and major renovations by 2030 is a necessary step towards curbing climate change and creating a more resilient built environment. Since we joined the commitment in 2015, we have reported on over 20.6 million sq. ft. of buildings! With 2030 fast approaching, we are going to share what actions we're taking to help us live up to the pledge. #netzeronow

Dramatic energy savings were achieved at Sawara—our newest affordable housing project with Seattle Housing Authority—thanks to a heat pump hot water heating system. David Kelley, AIA shares a few critical design considerations for this system. Plus, two additional high-impact features that further reduced the carbon footprint—CO2 refrigerant and load shifting. #netzeronow The Sawara team: Ecotope, Inc. was the mechanical engineer that designed this system. In honor of Net Zero Week at the New Buildings Institute, we're taking a look at a successful net zero project. Wynne Watts Commons, completed in 2022, demonstrates that by strategically leveraging tax credits—it is possible to achieve a #netzero design with close to zero premium. This multifamily community provides universally-designed workforce housing for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. As a result of the net zero design, building residents have zero electricity bills. With the right tools and resources, net zero buildings can contribute to a more affordable and equitable built environment. #netzeronow
It’s almost net zero cost to achieve net zero energy in affordable housing. Yes, you heard that right. Murray Jenkins is here to explain. Plus Murray is sharing a few key design tactics that others can use to achieve low- to no-cost #netzero buildings. _ Wynne Watts Commons, designed by AM and completed in 2022, is the largest affordable Net Zero Energy project incorporating Universally accessible design. It recently won the Urban Land Institute Terwilliger Innovation Award thanks to its affordability and sustainability. #SustainableDesign #AffordableHousing
