Excited to have Matthew Alt leading the way with the first-ever American Manga Awards which we at Japan Society are super excited about this summer in close partnership with Anime NYC. Looking forward to seeing the winners and in the meantime congratulations to all the finalists!
As judges for the Best Translation category of the first-ever American Manga Awards (being held at the Japan Society of NYC this August -- thanks for the hospitality, Joshua!) Hiroko Yoda and I combed through 40+ candidates to select five nominees. Congrats to all -- it was amazing to see how much talent is out there now, compared to the early days of #localization in the late Nineties. Back then, you could practically count the number of full-time #Japanese to English entertainment #translators on two hands. That is very much not the case anymore. We were blown away both by the quality of the #manga, and of the skills the nominees brought to bridging cultures with their linguistic talents.
