During this heat wave, it’s important to keep your pet well-hydrated! Generally, your pet should drink about one ounce of water for each pound of body weight. That may need to increase by 3-4x depending on their exposure to heat, activity levels, and diet. Encourage your pet to drink more water by: ?? Always supplying fresh water ?? Clean the water bowl daily ?? For pets that prefer running water, try a pet fountain ?? Add wet food or more raw fruits and vegetables to their diet (just double-check that they are safe for your pet to consume) Your pet may be dehydrated if they’re experiencing loss of appetite, reduced energy, lethargy, panting, dry eyes, nose, or gums, or loss of skin elasticity. If your pet experiences dehydration, contact ASC at (914) 457-4000 immediately. We are open 24/7!
