Almost every company dealing with edible insects in general has a final goal to produce either high quality insect meal, protein isolate, fat / oil. We of course are dealing with new technological processes of edible insects in order to fully fill the expectations of numerous markets. But we have a catch in our research! The hypothesis we set for ourselves during the last year and for this year is to gather many information possible of how the processed (in our case blanched and then dried) edible insects can withstand the "attack" from common stored product pests. In our first experiment our Ma?a Ivkovi? has exposed the different types of dried T.molitor to various Tribolium and moth species. After 75 days the results are shown in the pictures:

Using Black Soldier Fly meal for a sustainable shift in aquaculture and poultry production ?? ?? Commercial usage of the BSF meal in animal husbandry is relatively new, but the "field" results are promising. Black soldier fly meal targets aquaculture and poultry production as a replacement for various fish meals (used in, for example, shrimp, salmon, sea bass, and sea bream rearing) and soybean meal (used in poultry production). There are two types of meal: full-fat and defatted. The difference is that the full-fat meal is rich in fat and mostly saturated fats, while defatted is mostly richer in protein (the range is quite wide and can be from 200 to 600 g per kilo, depending on the fat removal technique). The mineral composition is extraordinary, and the BSF larvae are commonly known for their Ca content (it can be as high as 35 g/kg). Microelements like Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mg are also present, but when formulating the feed for larvae, keep in mind that they can accumulate harmful elements such as Ba, Hg, and Mo, so keep in mind that mixing the feed-rich in such elements can affect the overall quality of the meal!
