WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT ?? H A Y L E E? ? We're kicking off this month by sharing feedback from a mother of one of our pediatric cancer warriors and how Angels Among Us made an impact for her family. ??? ? "I remember sitting in the hospital room days after Haylee’s diagnosis when the social worker came in to talk to us. When they explained that Angels Among Us was going to provide us financial support for the duration of Haylee’s treatment, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I knew I was not going to be back to work any time soon but I also knew the bills wouldn’t stop coming in and I needed to focus on Haylee and getting her better. It was eight months before I finally was able to return to work and I still have a lot of time off with doctor visits, chemotherapy, etc. ? ? Angels Among Us has gone beyond the financial support they provided us during Haylee’s treatment. They have provided a sense of community as we navigate our new ‘normal’. They have connected us with other families going through similar journeys and they have made our journey feel less lonely, checking in on us and making sure we are doing okay. Last week, Angels Among Us said farewell to a very important member of our team, Brittany Friesen, our Director of Family Programs. By all accounts, this was a very difficult decision for Brittany, and it weighed on her for a long time. But ultimately, she wanted to move on from the cancer world.? ? Brittany’s impact on Angels Among Us cannot go unnoticed. In honor of her son Caleb, who gained his angel wings in 2019, she created emotional support programming that supports the entire family in ways we simply wouldn’t have been able to create on our own. She was the heartbeat behind loving and serving our families best, and for that, we are grateful. We wish her the very best in her future adventures, and we know we’ll still see her around!????

WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT?? J A Y D E N ? ? Today, we're shining a light on a very strong young man, Jayden. His story is one of true courage, and we are so proud of his fight through his battle with cancer. Read about his journey in the words of his mother.??? ? "In November 2020, Jayden began complaining of knee pain and developed a significant limp.??After an X-ray showed lesions in the knee, Jayden was sent to an orthopedic oncologist at UNMC.??They did an MRI and were stunned to discover hundreds of tumors from mid-thigh to toes.??Three weeks later, Jayden got a biopsy done.??He was diagnosed with pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma, an extremely rare case of tumors throughout his entire left leg.?18 months' worth of treatments were ineffective on the tumors, and Jayden had an above-the-knee amputation done on July 27th, 2022.?? ? Angels Among Us took such a heavy financial burden off of us during Jayden’s cancer journey. ?They also stayed in constant contact to let us know if we needed anything at all, they were in our corner. ?We are forever grateful to them."? ?
