Following from our post from last week, we will be highlighting an investment trend for females in 2024. Each week for the next 2 weeks we will discuss an area of the current market for female investors and founders. This week: Generational Wealth Transfer: As the largest generational wealth transfer in history is set to occur when Baby Boomers retire, women are expected to control over $30 trillion by 2030. This shift in financial power presents an opportunity to invest in more female-founded ventures. Of the $84 billion in wealth transferred by 2045, women are set to inherit the majority. Behind the Numbers: Women tend to marry older, live longer, and are increasingly making more household financial decisions. There are also more women than men in the world and that gap continues to widen. As a matter of practicality, this shift will mean that women will need to be considered more in decisions. And women tend to invest differently - more risk averse, with more of a footprint in social impact and a focus on important life goals as benchmarks. Each week for the next 3 weeks we will discuss an area of the current market for female investors and founders. This week: Female-Led Top Returns: Female founders tend to exit their business faster for 2x the return, while female investors, though only 20% of total private investors, make up 70% of top quartile of returns. Diverse-led companies (including women and minorities) also tend to return capital of around 30% higher than their non-diverse peers. Behind the Numbers: Often the reason females succeed in such high proportions is that they set the bar higher - they have a healthy chip on their shoulder and know they need to outcompete their male peers for the same recognition. However, they don’t necessarily work more as they tend to be more efficient with their time. They also tend to keep costs lower, driving up profit margins. Summing it Up: We support female founders both for equity and return reasons. It is a double whammy of positive benefit to support diverse entrepreneurs. Each week for the next 4 weeks we will discuss an area of the current market for female investors and founders. This week: Focus on ESG and Purpose-Driven Businesses: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles continue to be a major focus for female founders. Women are at the forefront of creating businesses that prioritize sustainability and social good, drawing in mission-driven investors. In fact, 74% of women are looking to increase their allocations to ESG-oriented investments. We believe in these causes deeply at Angel Hive, and are here to support this ecosystem. Behind the Numbers: According to wealth advisors from RBC, women are almost twice as likely as men to pursue ESG-related investments specifically. The great news about this is that ESG can be and has been used as a catalyst to get women interested in investing. Following our post from last week, we will be highlighting an investment trend for females in 2024. Each week for the next 5 weeks we will discuss an area of the current market for female investors and founders. This week: Growing Need for Diverse Investors: The disparity in funding for women-led ventures cannot be resolved by women alone. At the moment, diverse investors are 2x more likely to invest in diverse founders than their non-diverse peers. We love to work with our male allies and would love to partner with anyone who believes in our mission. That being said, we also believe a key component of increasing funding in women-led ventures is increasing diversity of investment teams. Behind the Numbers: Currently in the United States, women make up approximately 11% of investing partners at VC firms. Various studies show that an implicit bias exists in investment decisions and investors consciously or not disproportionately favor male entrepreneurs and startups. Focusing on diversity and inclusivity is a win for both investors and startups with studies finding that teams that have more than one gender and race and ethnicity represented in their teams were found to be more innovative and perform better financially. Summing it Up: Female investors need to get in the game to start driving change and to put our money where our hearts are.
