This Valentines Day, ANEW was honored to host the Twin Cities Transition Coalition! This incredible group is dedicated to connecting community partners and expanding access to the resources, programs, and services that individuals impacted by incarceration need to thrive. Their work helps reduce individual risk and create stronger, more supported communities. Our Founder & CEO, Michaelene Colestock, shared ANEW’s history, mission, and services, while our very own alum-turned-counselor, Cherie Trinka, bravely shared her experience with the DOC and her powerful story of resilience. We’re thrilled to share that ANEW has received a grant to implement Plans of Safe Care (POSC) for families in our community. A POSC is a written plan that supports infants and their families when there has been substance exposure during pregnancy. The goal is to keep children safe, support caregivers in their recovery, and connect families to the services they need. These plans include a safety plan for the infant and family, a service plan for the baby’s health and development, and resources for the caregiver’s treatment and overall well-being. By creating POSCs early—ideally before birth—we can help keep families together and reduce the need for foster care. We’re grateful for this opportunity to expand our work and provide even more support to the families we serve. More to come as we put this into action! #ANEW #PlanOfSafeCare #SupportingFamilies
