Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville, is a four-story bar/ restaurant, located downtown along the legendary Lower Broadway in Nashville, Tennessee, filled with live music and buzzing energy of tourism. Responding to the site’s historic context, the building is constructed with mass timber, a nod to the commercial warehouses within the area that are heavy timber and load bearing masonry. A portal of light draws patrons in to be greeted on the interior by a large rotating skull nestled within the double-height space. An open cross laminated stair, directs people to either the two-tiered mezzanine, allowing a birds-eye view of live music below, or to continue moving upward to experience the excitement and energy on floors above. The top level is equipped with garage doors opening to a roof-top terrace, creating the opportunity for an indoor/ outdoor space for everyone to experience. On all levels, an interesting dichotomy is created between the warmth felt by the mass timber structure mixed with the industrial, borderline rebellious, material palette. A thoughtful gesture to pay homage to the Nashville native singer, Jelly Roll. Demand for tasting experiences at Jack Daniel’s distillery in Lynchburg, TN drove the development of a new tasting facility that houses six tasting rooms. This addition to the site sits across the creek from Barrel House 114 and creates a courtyard with the Motlow House. The clean design of this new tasting structure nestles in with the historic architecture of the site, while holding true to the crisp, iconic Jack Daniel’s branding that permeates the building. #anecdote #architecturalexperiences #jackdaniels #distillery #architecture #interiordesign #WhiskyWednesday #Tennessee Brown-Forman Carter Group, LLC Photography by Andrew Keithly

On March 3, 2020, a tornado devastated parts of Nashville’s historic Germantown neighborhood, including Kacky Fell’s 1890s home and the studio for Hatcher & Fell Photography. The original home was not salvageable. Instead of reinventing the home, a thoughtfully rearranged version of the original home was created. The layout was designed to dually function as both a traditional home and an entertainment hub for the numerous events held monthly. Many details can be found that pull inspiration from the original home. Over-exaggerated base heights, curved glazing, solid wood panel doors, and transom openings among many other details brought the character of the previous home into the modern age. This home balances the needs of today with the historic context that remains in the neighborhood, while respecting the structure that came before it. Dickson County Higher Education Center is a collaboration between TCAT Dickson and Nashville State Community College. The project will provide specific healthcare education and medical training to the local workforce in West-Central Tennessee. The building’s layout pivots around a central, two-story lobby that will greet visitors arriving from the front as well as students arriving from the car park in the rear. The visitor side of the lobby features four, two-story, upside-down taper structural columns which symbolize the rod of Asclepius, commonly associated with medicine and healing in Greek mythology. St. Michael Academy is the first of several phases to be realized on the Nolensville Catholic Campus. This facility houses grades PreK through 8th grade and serves as the temporary home to Mother Teresa Parish. The design was heavily influenced by goals established in the master planning process, some of which include: Stewardship, Preservation, Sustainability, Contextual Design, and Connection to the Natural Environment. The building sought to thoughtfully respond to many opportunities the existing 166 acre site offered. The massing of the building cascades down with the natural topography and the wings of the building reach out to embrace the existing pond that is central to the campus. Vehicular circulation was kept to the perimeter to allow for a more natural setting around the building and a variety of outdoor classroom environments. On the interior, state of the art classrooms and teaching spaces were tailored specific to each grade level, and furnished to be adaptable to a variety of curriculum. A natural material palette pulls from the exterior environment to influence the interiors and create a serene space for learning.
