The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the 2025 annual adjustments to civil monetary penalties enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). These adjustments, mandated by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015, account for inflation to maintain the deterrent effect of penalties. The new penalty amounts are effective as of January 15, 2025, and apply to violations assessed after this date. The updated maximum penalty amounts are as follows: Serious Violation — from $16,131 to $16,550 per violation Other-Than-Serious — from $16,131 to $16,550 per violation Posting Requirements — from $16,131 to $16,550 per violation Failure to Abate — from $16,131 to $16,550 per day beyond the abatement date Willful or Repeated — from $161,323 to $165,514 per violation Employers are encouraged to review these updated penalty amounts and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations to maintain safe and healthful workplaces. NYC DOB Worker Wallet Cards Are Here Effective November 1, 2024, Worker Wallet Cards will replace multiple certification cards for NYC construction workers. Certifications for scaffolds, rigging, cranes, and gas piping will be included (see below). Replace old cards by July 1, 2025, at DOB-approved providers (fees may apply). SST Cards remain unchanged and will still be required along with the Worker Wallet Cards.
