DISMISSED: New York City can't use an unconstitutional, two-century-old “anti-pauper” law to block the state of Texas from offering migrants free bus rides to the city from the southern border, a state judge has ruled. Congratulations to both Mark J. Levine and Elliot Kudisch on another successful result in New York regarding our ongoing representation of 16 Texas-based transportation companies against the Mayor of NYC and an archaic law that should have been eradicated decades ago when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a near identical statute void.

In the “old days” lawyers trudged through hundreds (sometimes thousands) of boxes of documents stored in a warehouse to identify relevant information. Any lawyer who practiced before the digital age probably remembers being a young associate spending weeks going through boxes and flagging important documents with Post-it notes, then waiting for the vendor to provide copies. Long gone are the days of photocopying. That data (and more) can now be stored digitally, and most companies are doing so. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/grzh3pp7

This past week, the firm wrapped up our inaugural trial practice training program, which included a multi-month series of training sessions on opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations and closing arguments, and culminated with the application of that training within a mock trial setting. Jacqueline Houlette, a well-respected trial training and CLE expert whom the firm has a long-standing relationship with, was the course instructor for the program. Associate Sara Golestaneh and Senior Counsel Ieshia Dunmore paired to win the two-day mock trial competition. Individual awards were also presented for Best Opening, Sara Golestaneh; Best Direct, Nallely Rodriguez; Best Cross, Ieshia Dunmore and Best Closing, Daniel Manning. Thank you to Kristi Belt for her hard work in chairing this initiative, our guest judges for their time and insight, and to our many staff volunteers for serving as trial witnesses.
