Boots on the ground! At least before they’re ski-boots on the snow in about a month… Our Principals Gregory C. Moormann, PE, RA and stephen lampard went to Utah to visit the continued operations on this entire new Ski Village resort opposite of Park City. We are providing various temporary SOE, permanent civil, and Geotechnical Engineering services for multiple building footprints.

We work directly with specialty injection contractors such as Expert Concrete Restoration & Repair to engineer plans and procedures for all sorts of ground remediation operations. Here, a newly installed ConEd vault, installed with the agency spec’d waterproofing, still was not enough to resist groundwater infiltration. A post-grouting chemical injection “blanket” was installed all around to fully seal out the box. This is a great example of how the material will travel several feet or more during the process to capture every pathway available.

We're totally loving how this new corner residential came out finally! Shout out to Michael Young and New York YIMBY for these photos that literally look like renders. It was a project of a lot of stop and go getting caught up in the COVID era of development. Ancora was the Geotech of Record, performing our initial investigations back in early 2021, as well as providing Demolition consulting and inspections, Support of Excavation engineering, and Excavation and Foundations special inspections. Secant Walls are no new construction technique, yet for the longest time was never quite described under the building code. They’re used in both temporary and permanent construction, so what code sections govern? For Special Inspections, they now actually exist under the NYCBC-2022 “Underpinning and Alternate Methods”, recognized as a system and construction method commonly used as an “alternative” to underpinning of an adjacent building. Not many realize how Amtrak rails cut right through Manhattan in the north-south running directions in an open corridor. Since built (and plowing away an entire path of demolished buildings) many new developments have slowly worked their way back to reoccupy the lost real estate above the rails. What goes into protecting the active rails during excavations and foundations work along side this corridor is no simple feat. Ancora has provided engineering services on SEVERAL of these Amtrak corridor projects for Demolitions, Alterations, Geotechnical and Excavations, and various protection and means/methods design to aid the profession of these various development types.
