Leading our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being through conservation projects for native young adults.

关于我们

Our vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being by engaging Indigenous youth and young adults in conservation service programs that reconnect participants to the land, their cultural heritage, and their traditions. We work to remove barriers to participation, education, and employment by partnering with local community organizations, agencies, and institutes of higher learning to create paid service and career training opportunities, personal and professional development, and pathways to postsecondary education and employment.

  • Now this is a Corps memory! ??? Last month on Wednesday October 15, 2024, Secretary Haaland traveled to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (CANM) in Colorado to visit the ancestral Puebloan site. This is the home of many tribes around the southwest and houses a convergence of cultures, which at the peak living capacity included an impressive 40-room village. This hitch, a crew from the Pueblo of Zuni had the honor of working on these dwellings where their ancestors once occupied and rekindling that spiritual connection. Pictured from Crew 661 are: Loren Quam, Seth Quam, Keanna Waatsa, Brooke Seowtewa, and Nathan Dewa. This crew was tasked with Historic Preservation work in the form of tediously maintaining the dwelling structures using a specialized motor mix to repair the gaps and joints in the walls. Making special appearances from the Individual Placements team were IP Program Managers: Shonto & Kiana. IPs in attendance were Tiana Cachini (also from Zuni) who is working on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) CANM Native Lands Mapping project, Pualani Tupper - BLM Colorado Office of Communications, and Darian Seowtewa, A former crew member who is now currently working as a Traditional Trades and Apprenticeship IP at Mesa Verde National Park. This visit will be a cornerstone in the program for years to come. Having support for the Indian Youth Service Corps from The Secretary of the Interior is equally validating as it is humbling. The American Climate Corps continues to show commitment by speaking with our program at a localized level and looking ahead for the next generation of conservation stewards ?? Thank you!! • Year after year we are grateful to be A National Forest Foundation Grantee ? Thanks to The National Forest Foundation funding. This year our crews were able to work on Trails restoration projects in both Gila National Forest and Santa Fe National Forest. In recent years wildfires have devastated the landscapes across New Mexico. Once the Cinders of the Black Fire and Hermit's Peak-Calf Canyon Fires stopped burning, our crews were ready to help with recovery efforts. Thank you! National Forest Foundation for providing the essential funding to help our neighboring relatives. Thinning and vegetation removal were the first steps toward the mitigation process ahead of a long trail of recovery to healthy sustainable lands ?? We’re still reeling from last week from Secretary Deb Haaland visit to our Acoma program. This visit was a part of the American Climate Corps Fall Tour supported by the Indian Youth Service Corps (IYSC) This initiative will be supported for years to come with a commitment of $15 million to strengthen the IYSC program and other corps programs for underserved communities. Secretary Haaland announced a $480,000 grant for the Acoma Traditional Farm Corps. This funding will further support our offices in Pueblo of Isleta and Pueblo of Zuni to establishing their own Farm Corps programs. Pueblo of Acoma Traditional Farm Corps - The Traditional Farm Corps program ALCC has run in Acoma since 2011, working to revive agricultural knowledge, practices, seed, and cultural perspective while working with local young people and providing healthy food for the community. Key aspects of the program include: ? Tribal Food Sovereignty ? Community Health ? Outdoor recreation (Hiking Club) ? Cultural Reconnection It was an honor to host Secretary Haaland in showcasing the incredible work of the Acoma Traditional Farm Corps. The day was filled with wholesome moments like harvesting a variety of traditional foods from the hoophouse with ALCC participants alongside our special guests from the local senior center. It is a huge blessing to celebrate and most importantly continuing the vital work ahead. After sharing a meal and making connections we concluded the day with a tour of Old Acoma. Thank you to everyone involved in this extraordinary day. #ClimateCorps #TribalFoodSovereignty #SecretaryHaaland #PuebloOfAcoma #AcomaTradition #IndigenousYouth #CulturalReconnection #OutdoorRecreation #CommunityHealth #AgriculturalRevival U.S. Department of the Interior

Today is a double feature from the Individual Placements (IP) program. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) - Colorado in partnership with ALCC have hired two interns to cover that region. Macy Robinson, (Cherokee) visitor center IP at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (CANM) and Pualani Tupper, BLM Colorado Public Affairs & Communications IP. We are happy to share Pualani's article interviewing Macy about her internship from topics like daily tasks, highlights so far and future plans. This is the first collaboration of its kind, with IPs interviewing their peers. Read the article at https://lnkd.in/gKHXGJAd. As a bonus here is Macy's introduction below ?? Osiyo-Hello! My name is Macy Robinson, and I am 19 years old. I come from Oklahoma and am a member of the Cherokee Nation, although my family resides in the Muscogee Indian Territory. My clan is the Wolf clan on my mother's side. I am currently transferring to Fort Lewis College with a major in Anthropology. I am a part of the Ancestral Lands Individual Placement Program for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. Knowing that my tribe was not from here, I took this position to gain cultural knowledge and perspectives from the affiliated tribes of this region. I mainly spend my time in our visitors center for indigenous interpretation and doing programs for visitors. It is an honor to be a part of this program and to have the opportunity to work so closely with these sacred sites. Wado - Thank you. #IndividualPlacements #BureauOfLandManagement #InternshipProgram #Communications #CanyonsoftheAncients #FortLewisCollege #AncestralLands #PublicAffairs #ALCC
