?? Are you aware of what #OSHA requirements apply in the #PacificNorthwest? Many #safety managers may not realize that #Oregon and #Washington have requirements that vary slightly from OSHA's regulations when it comes to #hearingconservation. For example, STS and age-correction: ? Oregon & Washington regulations do not allow age-correction to be applied to the standard threshold shift. ? However, the age-correction can be applied to the recordability of the shift, meaning it doesn't meet criteria for being entered on the 300 log. ?? This allows #safetyleadership to prevent further #hearingloss from occurring through retraining in #hearingprotection, and can prevent further recordable injuries in the future. ? Are your employees receiving their baseline #hearingtests within the time limit set out by #OSHA? In Oregon, employees must receive their baseline hearing tests within 6 months of being included in the #hearingconservation program. There is no mobile van exemption in Oregon - the 6 month rule applies regardless of how the testing is conducted. For employers located in Washington, there is the mobile van exemption allowing their employees to receive baseline tests within 12 months of being included in the program. However, best practice is to get those baselines as quickly as possible when an employee is exposed to levels of noise above the action level. #Anadyne #WorkplaceSafety

Are employees in a #hearingconservation program allowed to refuse their annual #hearingtest? While employers may understandably be concerned if this situation arises, it's important to note what #OSHA's noise standard actually requires. Simply put, employers must offer #hearingtesting to employees whose 8-hour time weighted average of exposure is over the action level. About 22 million workers in the United States are exposed to dangerous levels of noise every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
