  • A must read for all our GANCC Members - and anyone else who works with neurodivergent high school students and adults. "Supporting Neurodivergent and Autistic People for Their Transition into Adulthood: Blueprints for Education, Training and Employment" You can order it here:https://lnkd.in/gp7mYB4H The author is Danny Combs, M.A., BCCS, CAS, a co-founder of the Colorado Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce. The GANCC founders consulted with him and the two additional #CNCC founders to help start the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. We are incredibly grateful for their support and foresight into the needs of neurodivergent adults.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week This week aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, and organizations with the opportunity to recognize the many talents and advantages of being neurodivergent while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual. If you're looking for a great book to learn more about, I'd highly recommend this one! • ANYONE CAN JOIN! (You do not have to be a Georgia Resident to Be A Part of This Online Session). Have you event asked yourself how do I best support my adult neurodivergent young adult child? Do you wonder how much independence we should give them ... and in what timeframe? Join the conversation with Michel Bordeau, MA, LCSW who will lead our PARENT CONNECTIONS interactive monthly online event tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 11 at 7pm. Registration is required at?https://lnkd.in/eJrZEhsZ Key Takeaways from Our Collaborative Discussion: Defining Success on Individual Terms – Traditional milestones and societal expectations don’t always align with neurodivergent development. By shifting our perspective, we can celebrate progress based on personal strengths rather than external standards. Balancing Support and Independence – It’s natural to want to help, but true empowerment comes from knowing when to step back. Recognizing executive functioning differences as skill gaps rather than “laziness” helps parents provide the right kind of support without over-accommodating. Letting Go of Rigid Timelines – Growth happens at different paces and embracing a flexible approach allows for meaningful development. Focusing on long-term resilience instead of current expectations helps foster confidence and self-sufficiency in young adults. Register Here:?https://lnkd.in/eJrZEhsZ?

  • Disability Inclusion does not mean lowering standards. It means giving very qualified people a chance. Talent, skill, and drive exist in EVERY community.

PSA: Disability inclusion was never about giving jobs to unqualified people. It’s about giving qualified people a chance. Society creates barriers and bias around disability. Those barriers keep qualified talent from being seen. People with disabilities don’t need handouts They need fair opportunities to: - compete - contribute - lead The idea that inclusion means lowering standards isn’t just wrong—it’s insulting. Talent, skill, and drive exist in EVERY community. #disabilityInclusion #disability #inclusion #diversity #belonging

  • Everyone in the workforce wins with Universal Design - which provides more clarity in communication. “Recognizing that people have different preferences and abilities when it comes to receiving information, incorporating various formats such as text, audio, video and visual aids ensures that everyone can access and comprehend the content. This approach not only accommodates individuals with disabilities but also enhances the overall clarity and effectiveness of communication for all.”

We have a moment In recent weeks, there has been a lot of fear around a variety of programs. I look at it as an opportunity and think we have a moment. In my years working with employers, I have found one truth - businesses want to make money and will do what it takes. They hire people who make them money. Everyone I’ve ever spoken with wants to hire people with disabilities, but most don’t. Do you know why? Fear. It’s that simple. AND the fear trumps the desire to make more money. Because they’re afraid if they are inclusive and they mess up, they’ll be get in trouble. In other words, they don’t know what they don’t know, but they want to. They really do. This is our moment to show them that hiring people with disabilities not only increases the community and culture of their organization but makes them more money and there is no reason to be afraid - it’s changing the attitude of the culture. However, there is a real need to make some fundamental changes to the employment landscape as a whole, and that’s where the opportunity lies. The truth is very few employees are happy with the way employment is set up right now - disability or no disability. Everyone is losing. This is where some fundamental changes come in so that everyone wins and no one feels singled out. Here’s a link to an article I wrote a year ago about universal design in communication and why everyone wins. https://lnkd.in/g8FBNgkq

  • NEURODIVERSITY AT WORK: We Need A Rebrand of The Brain! "We need a rebrand of the brain and fortunately, it’s begun thanks to the idea of Neurodiversity. The concept of Neurodiversity illustrates how much like biodiversity in nature, the wider the variation in our operating systems as humans, the better off we all are." - Dave Thompson https://lnkd.in/gZ9G5wxM
