The Arab American Institute (AAI) held a convention with a series of panels, one of which included a timely and critical panel discussion entitled, "A Climate of Repression to Shutdown Debate on Palestine.” Panelists included AAI Executive Director Maya Berry, Peter Beinart, Tariq Habash, Santita Jackson, and Hon. William Haddad, who examined the climate of repression and efforts to shut down advocacy on Palestinian human rights. AMVOTE is proud to announce that our request for a MENA classification here in Chicago was adopted by the Chicago City Council! The Bill was sponsored by Alderman Gil Villegas who met with AMVOTE Executive Board Member Salman Aftab and Chair Hon. William Haddad last month.

Hon. William Haddad was proud to announce the first ever law student scholarship fund at the Judicial Reception for the Arab American Bar Association of Illinois (AABAR). Close to 300 attorneys and judges were present, including long-time friend and supporter Justice Linda Davenport of the Illinois Appellate Court. Congratulations to AABAR's new officers sworn in at the event as well as honorees Judge Moe Ahmad, Judge Michael Betar, Judge Lakshmi Jha, Judge Monique O' Toole, and Judge Rouhy Shalabi.
