?? On March 7, 2025 U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel at the Eleventh District Command Center received notification from the 11-meter sailing vessel Quiet, on a voyage from El Salvador to Tahiti, they were demasted and low on food and fuel about 1,200 miles from any safe port while transiting the Intertropical Convergence Zone. ?? Rescue authorities used the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER) system to locate the bulker Star Maia, which was the only ship within 500 miles of the disabled sail boat. ?? The crew of the Star Maia agreed to divert and within 26 hours of being notified, arrived on scene and established communications with the Quiet’s skipper, assessed the situation, and executed a well planned transfer operation. ?? In less than 45 minutes the crew of the Star Maia delivered fuel, oil, and food in one of the most remote areas of the Pacific Ocean. ?? It is through partnerships such as this that lives are saved and critical Coast Guard resources can continue to protect American maritime borders while ensuring no call for help goes unanswered. Bravo Zulu to the crew of the Star Maia! ??: marine traffic

AMVER is a voluntary ship reporting system that search and rescue authorities use to locate people in distress at sea.
关于我们
AMVER, sponsored by the United States Coast Guard, is a voluntary global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. With AMVER, rescue coordinators can identify participating ships in distress and divert the best-suited vessels to respond. In an emergency, any rescue coordination center can request this data to determine the relative position of AMVER ships near the distress location. On any day, there are thousands of ships available to carry out search and rescue services.

?? A fantastic example of the use of Emergency Position Indicating Locator Beacons (EPIRB), U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue professionals, and Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER) partners like the crew of the Crowley container ship El Coquí who rescued four Americans from their sunken sailboat in the Atlantic Ocean near the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. ??? The use of an EPIRB took the search out of this search and rescue case. Every mariner should use AND register their EPIRB. ?? Partnerships matter and the partnerships between AMVER and the commercial shipping community save lives! ?? Bravo Zulu to the crew of the El Coguí for demonstrating incredible seamanship and ensuring no call for help goes unanswered! https://lnkd.in/eKFshnu2

The Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER) offices are located at the tip of Manhattan and the building, its piers, and location south of the World Trade Center played a role when the U.S. Coast Guard made the call for all available boats on September 11, 2001. Today we reflect, remember, and honor the bravery of those who fled and those who steamed to assist in the largest maritime evacuation in U.S. history. ??? ???? https://lnkd.in/enGWQaAT
