The most common complaints I hear about working with other attorneys are not usually about quality of work, but are about poor practice management. Issues with law firms relating to surprise legal bills, late bills, lack of attorney responsiveness, inconsistent staffing, and treating every task as a last minute fire drill are more than just minor frustrations for a paying client - these deficiencies can have a major impact on a company's ability to operate efficiently, manage legal budgets, and incorporate legal strategy into its daily operations. Hopefully, these frustrations do not sound familiar - but if they do, it may be time to consider a new home for your legal needs.

A few key takeaways: - Yes, you can get patents on AI-based technologies (despite misinformation about the death of software patents). Moreover, I'm quite confident that the vast majority of these patents do not relate to fundamentally new AI algorithms, but rather relate to novel applications of AI to other technical problems. - China significantly leads the U.S. in AI-based patent grants. I expect this relates less to respective levels of innovation and is instead reflective of major turns in respective policies over the past ~10 years, with China progressively strengthening its patent system by removing roadblocks to software patents, and the U.S. unfortunately enacting more restrictive policies. - Europe remains quite difficult for software patent applicants. - As a whole, the land grab for AI patents is real and accelerating.
