At just 22, Alia Rahman was diagnosed with severe cervical precancer due to HPV. Determined to find a better solution, she, an environmental engineer, began self-experimenting with green tea compounds, eventually developing a non-invasive self-administerable treatment, that cleared her lesions completely. Now, with critical trials of its products due in 2024, Amplexd Therapeutics, the company she founded, is all set to transform cervical care for women worldwide. ?? ?? November 17 marked the World Health Organization's annual Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action. ?? Earlier this year, our treatment innovation industry group — consisting of Amplexd Therapeutics, Ananya Health, and Mission-Driven Tech — identified the challenges to achieving improved treatment, outcomes, and ultimately, elimination of cervical cancer. I am delighted to announce that Daye's Diagnostic Tampon for STI and HPV screening has been recognised as a TIME Invention of the Year for 2024. This is a huge testament to the incredibly talented and endlessly committed Daye team. And what a milestone - to think that a few years ago, menstrual health products, often referred to as feminine hygiene ??, used to be deeply stigmatised. Now, Daye's smart tampon is featured alongside the world’s largest computer chip, a humanoid robot joining the workforce, and a bioluminescent houseplant. ?? More than two years after founding Amplexd Therapeutics, it remains surreal to speak about my health journey publically, and in particular, to see it in print. ?? If it were only to benefit my company's bottom line, I couldn't do it. I'm too private a person by nature. ?? I do it because gynecologic ailments are so common in women; from UTIs to candida albicans to endometriosis, PCOS, pregnancy complications, and cervical precancers (and cancer), yet, we frequently suffer in silence. ?? Oftentimes, our partners and families don't even know. ?? This summer, at a panel discussion in Hong Kong, I shared the following: "I am not ashamed of the act that brought me into this world, nor should you be." I try to live by this statement. ??♀? My want for all human beings is to eliminate shame from the equation. If, through the narration of my own story and vulnerability, I can inspire others to do the same, then it's a worthy initiative. If we can normalize talking about our sexual and gynecologic health, no differently than if we had a cold or a case of food poisoning, then it was all warranted. ??
