What happens when you bring a group of entrepreneurs together to talk about goal-setting and effective collaboration? You get meaningful conversations, actionable insights and plenty of lightbulb moments. That's exactly what Katie Parker and I experienced last week during our lunch-and-learn workshop at AMPERSAND STUDIOS in Nashville. We kicked things off by covering key takeaways, like: ?? Teams perform much better when clear goals exist and they're well aligned to strategy. ?? Choosing a framework creates unifying language and action, while sticking with it helps ensure your team moves together and stays motivated. ?? Collaboration doesn't just help us achieve goals; it multiplies impact. ?? Introducing structure isn’t the creativity killer as many people fear. It’s often the unlock for better ideas and innovation. But the best part? The breakout sessions. Each participant shared a challenge or goal, and the group worked together to troubleshoot and brainstorm solutions. When we came back together, a few common themes emerged: 1. Entrepreneurs feel tension when adding team members. Balancing onboarding, setting standards, introducing processes, aligning expectations and, of course, delegating feel hard to get right. 2. Refining and narrowing down big goals for the year remains a work in progress for many. People were in the room to accelerate progress. 3. Workflow and process challenges create friction with collaborators, both internal and external. Here’s the good news. All of these are solvable. When things feel messy or there's too much ambiguity, often the best approach is to step back and focus on the basics. Start here: 1. Focus on your top three objectives for the year and break them down into smaller, actionable milestones. 2. Invest time in onboarding. Bringing new team members on board requires upfront effort (there's no way around it), and it's a two-way street. Build a lightweight process to align expectations and set them (and you) up for success. 3. Commit to regular check-ins. Establish a cadence for communication to keep things moving, assess progress and adapt as needed. These aren't flashy solutions, but they will help you go from feeling stuck to --> taking the next step forward. Are you focusing on any of these foundational areas in your business?
