DOE Announces 2024 Clean Energy Education and Empowerment?Awardees, including Stanford alum Andi Kleissner The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized nine women for their outstanding contributions to clean energy through the 2024 C3E Women in Clean Energy Education & Empowerment Awards. These annual awards, in collaboration with Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Arizona State University aim to close the gender gap and enhance the participation of women in the clean energy sector. U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm praised the winners for their groundbreaking ideas and leadership in advancing a sustainable and equitable clean energy economy. The awardees, spanning various sectors like business, government, and research, have made significant impacts in areas such as renewable energy, policy reform, and innovation. Among them is Rose McKinney-James, honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 35-year career advocating for renewable energy and shaping state-level energy policy. Stanford alumna Andi Kleissner, (BS ’09 and MS ‘11, mechanical engineering) won the award in Entrepreneurship & Commercialization. Kleissner is a founder and co-CEO of Amped Innovation, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance, off-grid solar systems and appliances for solar-rich environments. She has deep expertise in solar technology and has led the company’s growth across emerging markets. She has dedicated her career to product innovation and social enterprise. Before founding Amped, Kleissner led a hardware engineering team at QuantaLife, which was acquired by BioRad Laboratories. These women will be celebrated at the 13th Annual C3E Symposium on November 13, 2024 at Stanford. The event highlights their achievements and promotes further discussions on accelerating the clean energy transition. On Day 3 of the #GOGSFE24 forum in Nairobi, SEforALL, in partnership with The World Bank and ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, co-led a session on ‘Cooling to Improve Lives and Livelihoods.’ Drawing from our latest joint report “Sustainable Cooling in Off-Grid Rural Areas” (https://lnkd.in/deQfYWYb), the session spotlighted exciting innovations in technology, business models, and finance for sustainable cooling. Key actions were outlined to create an enabling environment for these solutions, which are crucial in addressing climate impacts and improving lives in vulnerable communities. As SEforALL’s Rahul Srinivasan stated: "In a warming world, access to cooling is no longer a luxury but a basic right. Cooling is essential for protecting lives and livelihoods— reducing exposure to heat stress in homes, schools, clinics, and workspaces, vaccinating young children and indisposed adults, and improving productivity of those who work or study under challenging heat conditions.?The energy, health, education, and agriculture sectors must prioritize sustainable cooling which is linked to the attainment of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals."
