Today, Ampaire’s Electric EEL, a hybrid electric aircraft we call the “Hawaii Bird,” completed its first flight into Long Beach Airport. The 85-mile journey from Camarillo, CA, marked the first-ever hybrid electric flight to Long Beach, demonstrating our progress toward ensuring new technology aircraft can safely operate in airspace associated with major airports. This flight underscores the potential of technologies like our AMP Drive? hybrid propulsion system to operate in real-world environments, while reducing operating costs and emissions, and addressing the challenges of climate change. We’re proud to call City of Long Beach home and look forward to continuing our work to create a more sustainable future for aviation. If you were particularly sharp-eyed earlier this month you will have noticed the words Sustainable Aviation Test Environment (SATE) emblazoned on the Windracers' 'ULTRA' self-flying cargo aircraft featured in one of our posts. We were intrigued to know more. As luck would have it, this brand new article just appeared to provide more background. Professor Rae comes by his passion for aviation honestly. There is a marvellous, sepia-toned photo of his grandfather John Rae, Chief Pilot for Highland Airways, proudly standing by a Highland Airways' de Havilland 'Dragon' pictured at Wideford Aerodrome, Kirkwall in 1935. LYGG has signed for up to 200 Ampaire hybrid-electric propulsion units. The rollout will begin by upgrading engines for Cessna Grand Caravans, and expand to larger aircraft across the regional fleet. Ampaire’s AMP Drive? hybrid-electric powertrain combines a fuel-efficient engine with electric propulsion, optimizing fuel savings and reducing emissions by up to 50 %. Additionally, as the system is fully compatible with SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), further emission reductions can be achieved. At Ampaire, our mission is to make sustainable aviation accessible and practical for operators today, not in some distant future.
