The road to a career in education is rarely a straight path. For Molly, a middle and high school math and computer science teacher, Math Corps was the perfect option when her career track got interrupted. She couldn't find any openings for teachers when she and her family moved to Ely , Minnesota in 2015, so she decided to become a Math Tutor. The experience deepened her teaching skills, let her spend extra time with her son, and even allowed her to get a foot in the door at the school district. A teaching position soon opened up, Molly got the job, and she's been teaching at the same school nearly ten years later. “It was incredible: I was getting a chance to see their thinking in a way that you can't do as a classroom teacher,” she says. “It was awesome... It's a worthwhile program.” You can read all about Molly's story at the link below. Last week we honored the incredible service of members around the country during AmeriCorps Week, and we weren't the only ones! The Kanabec County Times recently celebrated two Reading Tutors in Braham, Minnesota for supporting local students: Charito and Noelle, who aren't just serving together, they're also mother and daughter! Noelle is in her second with plans on returning next year. Charito is in her fourth and final year in the program, but will be back in a school soon: she's getting her teaching license later this year! Thanks to you both for all you do for Braham students! Service through Reading Corps is an incredible way to get started on a career in teaching! Tutoring not only helps members develop practical skills when it comes to literacy, it also gives them the in-school experience and confidence to dive into education. This was exactly the case for Hillary, a Reading Corps alum who has now been teaching for over ten years! “Reading Corps gave me the ability to see challenges through a different lens with reading and a toolkit of what works,” she says. “You learn so much! Things that will help you in ways you don’t even realize at the time." Read all about Hillary's story from tutor to teacher and find out how you can develop your career pathway at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gmxbFud2

Continuing our celebration of #AmeriCorpsWeek, we're taking a look at the incredible impact our members have on their sites and their communities. Across the country, we have more than 2,500 members serving at over 1,000 partner sites! Just this year alone, our members have served over 1.7 million hours and counting! That's more than one million hours of tutoring students who need support, helping community members achieve their recovery goals, boosting the early educational skills of children, and so much more. Our members' impact truly shows how #AmeriCorpsWorks for individuals and communities alike. Thank you to all our members for your service!

And for countless members across our different programs, AmeriCorps worked to jump-start a fulfilling career! We want to celebrate the many members of our programs who went from Math Tutor to elementary school teacher, or Recovery Navigator to full-time recovery manager, or Reading Tutor to school social worker, and everyone in between! We're sharing some favorite quotes from our alumni about how service helped them get to where they are today. Are you an alum of our programs? Tell us in the comments how service impacted you! #AmeriCorpsWeek #WednesdayWin
