Our AMP ONE? system, operating since 2023 in Portsmouth, Virginia, extracts mixed recyclables and organic material from municipal solid waste. Equipped with this system, the Portsmouth transfer station in which it's operating is capable of diverting more than 60 percent of landfill-bound material for further processing with organics management and mixed recyclables sorting systems. MSW diversion meaningfully extends the life of landfills, reduces their environmental impact, and keeps disposal costs low.

With more than 30 federal scientific laboratories, multiple research universities, and a robust startup scene, Colorado has emerged as a #cleantech hot spot. The Centennial State ranks fourth in the nation in cleantech job concentration and eighth in cleantech #venturecapital investment, according to Colorado Cleantech. The latest issue of Colorado School of Mines Magazine profiles several alumni, including Senior Mechanical Engineer Kevin Ehlmann, about their decision to pursue a career in this fast-growing field. These capabilities are available in a model that includes all operations, maintenance, upgrades, and plant-wide optimization—and Waste Connections is pioneering adoption of such a model for a greenfield facility in the Denver area. At WasteExpo, our CEO Tim Stuart will sit down with Mark Ceresa, division vice president, to discuss the facility design and the advantages of this new way of operating for the waste and recycling industry.

Last week, members of our team spent an afternoon packing cereal at Community Food Share in Louisville, serving Boulder and Broomfield counties. We're continuing to support the nonprofit this month through a food drive at our headquarters.
