BREAKING ?? : Jimmy Lai testifying in Hong Kong sham trial a day after unjust conviction of 45 opposition figures under National Security Law Jimmy Lai is a journalist. Jimmy Lai is a British citizen. Jimmy Lai is a prisoner of conscience. He has been detained since 31 December 2020, charged under Hong Kong’s brutal National Security Law. Lai faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Like most ‘national security’ cases, he's being tried by special judges appointed by the authorities. Hong Kong authorities are persecuting Jimmy Lai solely because he exercised his right to freedom of expression and commitment to press freedoms. Prime Minister Keir Starmer must secure Jimmy Lai’s immediate release. Human rights shouldn’t be a postscript to the pursuit of trade deals with China. #FreeJimmyLai
