AMIRS is the non-partisan, student-run International Relations Society at American University. Since 1947, AMIRS has transformed the college experience for thousands of American University students through pioneering, experiential programming. Throughout the years, our mission has remained the same: to stimulate debate on international issues through a variety of programming. Today, AMIRS is the largest student-run organization on American University’s campus. As an institution, The American University International Relations Society functions as an umbrella organization for AmeriMUNC & WIRC, two of the largest Model United Nations Conference in the Northeast United States, the American University Model United Nations team, currently ranked 1st in North America, and the Programming Board, which brings the branches together community based social and academic programming.

  • This past month, the AMIRS general body elected Caitlin Rissmiller?to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & President and?Isabel Sunderland?to the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) & Vice President. Caitlin is a senior majoring in International Relations with a minor in German. She hails from Lansdale, Pennsylvania but has also found a home in Berlin, Germany. Outside of AmeriMUNC and AMIRS, Caitlin spends most of her time reading, annoying her roommates, and drinking coffee at the Dav. She loves this organization wholeheartedly and cannot wait to spend the next school year as CEO. Isabel is a rising junior majoring in International Studies and Justice & Law. She is originally from the suburbs of the land of pizza and wind in Chicago, Illinois. At American University, she has been actively involved in the International Relations Society as a part of the competitive Model U.N. team, serving as Director of Education for AmeriMUNC X and as a secretariat member for AmeriMUNC XI. She looks forward to building and strengthening the AMIRS Community for the 2024 school year and far beyond! We are excited to see what Isabel and Caitlin accomplish together as CEO & CAO!
