The American Transplant Congress (ATC) is the Joint Annual Meeting of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and the American Society of Transplantation (AST).
ATC provides a forum for the exchange of new scientific and clinical information relevant to solid organ and tissue transplantation and brings together transplant physicians, scientists, nurses, organ procurement personnel, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and other transplant professionals. The educational offerings provide attendees the opportunity to learn cutting-edge advances in research and exchange of ideas and practice in the field of solid organ and tissue transplantation.

The American Society of Transplant Surgeons represents approximately 1,800 professionals dedicated to excellence in transplantation surgery. Founded in 1982, the American Society of Transplantation (www.myAST.org) is an organization of more than 3,500 professionals dedicated to advancing the field of transplantation and improving patient care by promoting research, education, advocacy, and organ donation. Transparency in healthcare deliberations is about more than shared decision making. It is inextricably related to patient ownership, outcomes, and trust in the healthcare system. I was honored to participate in a Hot Topic Debate at the American Transplant Congress (ATC) with Keren Ladin, Winfred Williams, Vineeta Kumar, and Aditya Pawar. Our panel discussion regarding candidates attending transplant selection committee meetings is a strong example of patient forward processes. I think we changed some hearts and minds about what patients can handle when properly resourced.
