We are here today thanks to the hard work of those who came before us. Today at #ATC2024Philly, Joshua Mezrich, MD and Peter Friend, MD, led a special session commemorating the 70th anniversary of living donor transplantation and invited attendees to envision the possibilities of the future. Early pioneers and today's disruptors shared their perspectives and inspired the packed auditorium.

Transparency in healthcare deliberations is about more than shared decision making. It is inextricably related to patient ownership, outcomes, and trust in the healthcare system. I was honored to participate in a Hot Topic Debate at the American Transplant Congress (ATC) with Keren Ladin, Winfred Williams, Vineeta Kumar, and Aditya Pawar. Our panel discussion regarding candidates attending transplant selection committee meetings is a strong example of patient forward processes. I think we changed some hearts and minds about what patients can handle when properly resourced.
