??Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword in Health Education?? As more people turn to YouTube and other social media platforms for medical advice, we see both promise and pitfalls. While social media can spread valuable insights, it’s also a gateway for misinformation. Our latest study reveals the quality gap in YouTube content on cannabis for chronic pain—showing just how critical it is for healthcare professionals to lead the conversation online. ?? Key Findings: ?? Only 22.73% of videos (15 out of 66) were classified as useful. ?? 77.27% were neither useful nor misleading, with a significant portion from news sources (P=0.02). ?? Physicians produced 40% of the valuable content, underscoring the need for clinical expertise in online health information. ?? Useful videos had a much higher quality rating, with a mean Global Quality Score (GQS) of 4.00 vs. 2.76 for other content (P< 0.0001). ?? Why It Matters: ?? With almost 80% of the top videos lacking quality, it’s clear we need more reliable, evidence-based content on this topic. Healthcare professionals have both an opportunity and a responsibility to bridge this gap. ?? Call to Action: ?? Let’s make a stronger impact in social media spaces—ensuring patients access accurate, trustworthy information. By actively participating in the online health dialogue, we can empower patients to make informed choices about cannabis for chronic pain. ?? https://lnkd.in/errMEHUr #SocialMediaHealth #CannabisEducation #ChronicPain #MedicalMisinformation #YouTube Bright Etumuse Youshaa El-Abed Majesty Greer Jay Shah, M.D. Jane Onyemachi Chelsey Hoffmann Michael Schatman Terry Hunt II, MD, MBA Alopi Patel M.D., FASA Sudheer Potru, DO, FASA, FASAM

???? Blocks and Burns: continuous peripheral nerve blocks for burn management. A recent study published in Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine (RAPM) provides valuable data on the safety and effectiveness of continuous peripheral nerve blocks (CPNB) for managing acute burn pain. This research, conducted at an American Burn Association-verified regional burn center, analyzed outcomes in 281 patients from January 2018 to July 2023 who received a total of 484 perineural catheters. ?? Key Findings: - Infection Rate: Only six infections (1.2% of catheters) were observed, comparable to other surgical populations, showing promise for CPNB as a viable pain management solution. - Pain Control: Remarkably, one-third of patients achieved sufficient analgesia through CPNB, avoiding the need for operating room debridement. - Catheter Use: The median duration was six days, with no reports of nerve injury, vascular injury, or local anesthetic systemic toxicity—further supporting the safety of CPNB in this high-risk group. ?? Burn Severity: Median total body surface area burned was 5%, with 20% of patients sustaining full-thickness burns. Catheter placement was most commonly infraclavicular (49%), followed by popliteal sciatic (29%) and femoral (19%). This study underscores the potential for CPNB to enhance recovery and improve the quality of care for acute burn patients, who often face significant pain challenges. The low complication rates and strong analgesic effects shown here could influence future pain management protocols for burn injuries. #PainManagement #AcuteBurnCare #PeripheralNerveBlocks #MedicalResearch #PMR #Anesthesiology #BurnCare #LinkedInMedical ??
