It’s about the time of year where many oncology fellows are faced with the decision of where they move on from fellowship. It can be a difficult decision that really challenges you to look at yourself, what you want your career to look like in 10 years, and really makes you reflect on what’s truly important to you and your personal life and growth. Here I had the opportunity to discuss my perspective via American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Connection of why community oncology is so vital to our field and how my career in the community setting at St. Elizabeth Healthcare St. Elizabeth Physicians has given me unique opportunities to make an immediate impact on patients’ lives. While academic centers are vital for research and innovation, community oncology ensures that these advancements reach patients quickly and effectively. I’m proud to work in a place where I can combine cutting-edge treatments with a personal, patient-centered approach, and conduct research and provide the same if not better resources, technology, and expertise that many other academic centers can offer. Fantastic colleagues, mentorship, and leadership always helps as well!
