On the heels of major oil discovery in the late 1870’s, The Bradford Oil Exchange was established. During a single-day transaction at the height of the boom, a record $1 million transaction was documented. In 1880 there were 4,000 active wells and by 1881 this increased to 11,200 . Producing an estimated 23 million more barrels of crude oil, the Bradford Field, is estimated to have supplied 83 percent of America’s oil and nearly 77 percent of the world’s oil supply. From this day forward, crude oil production was vital to the growth of the region and the lifeblood of the American Refining Group refinery. Thanks to everyone’s collective efforts over the last several weeks, ARG was able to collect a total of 400 boxes of cereal to donate to local food banks here in Bradford. The Supply Chain Team recently made their rounds happily delivering the breakfast goodies to The Friendship Table, The Salvation Army, YWCA, and Destinations who each received approximately 100 boxes. Winner of the coveted “Giant Spoon” and cider breakfast was again the Purchasing Team for the second year in a row. Amy O’Neil and Kortney Regis individually donated 32 boxes each while the runners up was Supply Chain themselves providing 25 boxes per employee. The Sales Team rounded out the pack with 10 boxes donated per employee. A friendly competition for a worthy cause, let’s plan ahead for next year’s drive and try to top the amounts from this year and last.

William O. Woodring, former Fire and Safety Supervisor at American Refining Group, was honored recently during a ceremony to dedicate the newly constructed Kendall Avenue Fire Pump Building. A multi-year project, plans for the new pump building began in 2020 with construction commencing in April of 2023 before final commissioning on March 12, 2024. This project was designed to ensure adequate supply of water to the refinery in the event of an emergency. Amidst family, friends, former co-workers and many new faces, “We are proud to remember and to honor Bill Woodring by dedicating the completion of this building in his memory,” stated Matthew Rettger, Health & Safety Specialist and Fire Chief at American Refining Group. During his career, Woodring was responsible for daily safety and fire protection activities across the refinery. He witnessed the expansion of safety and fire protection practices that occurred in the early 1970’s, as well as the purchase of the 1970 foam truck and trailer that is still in-service today. “It was his passion for [all] aspects of safety that makes this dedication appropriate,” adds Rettger.

Another terrific turnout by Team ARG!!! The Bradford YMCA recently hosted its Corporate Challenge and ARG showed up in a wave of blue shirts and happy smiles to participate in the 2 mile walk and 5k run. Held annually, local companies throughout the community are invited as an opportunity to encourage employees to get out and exercise, raise awareness and challenge coworkers to a healthier lifestyle. Having participated for several years now, this year’s team was comprised of forty-five participants including employees and their families. This is the third consecutive year that ARG’s participation has topped greater than forty.

American Refining Group is excited to announce another successful training experience with our railroad partners, GATX and local affiliates. Last week, on June 9 & 10th, ARG welcomed the GATX Tank Trainer program on-site to provide hands-on tank care operation and safety training. Uniquely designed, this program provides a comprehensive tour of the tank (both inside & out), and also affords attendees the opportunity to learn in a class-room style setting within the belly of the tank. Whereas the tour provides details of how the equipment functions, the classroom portion teaches about types of cars, tank compliance, regulations, repair & inspection requirements, as well as the ever-important safety components. GATX began the TankTrainer program in 1993 as a way to supplement tank car training to customers and first responders. Since it’s inception they have partnered with over 21,000 organizations. ARG has been hosting this event for many years and approximately 66 people including employees, first responders and industry partners completed this most recent session consisting of four sessions over two days. Thank you to employees, colleagues and partners for joining us in this opportunity!
