When Kappa Lambda Chi Military Fraternity Inc., a fraternal organization for military service members and veterans, was looking for organizations to support, the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces team was a perfect fit. Many of them remember the help that was available from the Red Cross before, during, and after their deployments — including Justin Turner, an Army veteran who was able to return home for his uncle's funeral from a deployment in Afghanistan because of an emergency communication the Red Cross transmitted from his family. Now, Justin works as an Emergency Communications Center dispatcher for the Red Cross in Greater New York where he helps field calls for help from people who have experienced disasters. This week, he presented a check to his colleague in Greater New York, Lallita Maharaj, who serves as the Director of Service to the Armed Forces in the region. Justin is a founding member of the new Brooklyn Chapter of Kappa Lambda Chi Military Fraternity Inc. — a rapidly growing community of military veterans that currently spans from Delaware to Maine, providing a life-long brotherhood and a role within the public to elevate local communities. Fresh off their successful fundraiser for the Red Cross, the group is looking to continue their partnership throughout the nation — with plans to organize blood drives, install free smoke alarms for neighbors in need, and support military communities. Thank you Justin and all of your brothers in Kappa Lambda Chi Military Fraternity Inc. for your service and your support of our military veterans! George was off-duty and had taken off his shoes and settled in for the 18-hour drive to his family vacation in Florida when, on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, he intervened in a fiery accident and saved a man’s life.
