One year ago today, the Village of Lakeview was devastated by an EF3 tornado. In the wake of this disaster, electric crews from AMP’s Member communities responded to Lakeview’s call for mutual aid assistance. Teams from the City of Hamilton, Ohio, Village of Jackson Center, Lebanon, Village of Minster, Ohio, USA, New Bremen and City of Piqua worked to restore power to the community and within a week had about 70 percent of the electric system back online. Several communities also provided electric poles and transformers ─ Grafton, Lebanon, Minster, New Bremen, St. Marys, Versailles and City of Westerville. Additionally, crews from Piqua, City of Tipp City, Ohio, Versailles and City of Wapakoneta assisted the City of Celina, and crews from Minster, New Bremen and New Knoxville assisted the City of St. Marys; both communities’ electric systems were damaged by the tornado. The response of these municipal electric systems to a neighbor’s call for mutual aid exemplify the true spirit of public power. ?We are stronger together, and this past year has proven that when we come together, we can overcome any obstacle. #WeArePublicPower #StrongerTogether #PublicPower #CommunityPowered #MutualAid

AMP is celebrating Women’s History Month by highlighting women who have contributed to advances in the power industry. Today, we are featuring Annie Easley, who lived and worked in the AMP Member community of Cleveland. Easley was one of NASA’s “human computers” in the 1950s at the NASA Lewis Research Center (now the Glenn Research Center) in Cleveland. She went on to develop and implement code that was used in groundbreaking energy research, including battery technology for early hybrid vehicles. #WomensHistoryMonth #NationalWomensHistoryMonth #WeArePublicPower #PublicPower Cleveland Public Power

AMP is pleased to feature the Borough of Berlin and its 122-year-old #PublicPower utility in our Member spotlight. Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Berlin is situated in Somerset County and has been an AMP Member since 2003. The area that encompasses the borough was laid out and settled by German immigrants in 1784 and formally incorporated in 1833. During the Whiskey Rebellion, the borough was the location of one of the widespread protests, when a riot broke out at the local schoolhouse. A few months later, federal troops arrived at the borough, ending the rebellion. During the last week of September, the community celebrates its history by holding the annual Whiskey Rebellion Celebration, where attendees can enjoy food, reenactments and a grand parade. Today, Berlin has about 2,000 residents. The borough is home to Berlin Fife and Drum Corps, which was formed in 1782 and is one of the oldest, continually functioning fife and drum corps in the United States. Berlin is also where Snyder of Berlin potato chips are produced. Learn more about Berlin here: https://berlinborough.org/ #WeArePublicPower #ExplorePA #Pennsylvania #PAproud

AMP is pleased to announce Jim Odneal, Assistant Utilities Director for the City of Bowling Green, OH, as a Rising Star. Odneal has taken to his position with the City of Bowling Green and his place in the public power sector with great zeal. He finds enjoyment in the relationships he can foster and the variety of work and challenges he faces on the job. However, it is the difference that he is able to make for the people of his community that he most enjoys about public power — a fact that he would share with others considering a career in the industry. “There is so much to learn in public power, but my biggest piece of advice is to prioritize customer service,” Odneal said. “Remember that, in one way or another, everyone you interact with is your customer. Serve them with dedication and always put the community first. When you lead with a service-focused mindset, it becomes easier to navigate challenges and achieve meaningful results for both the utility and the people it serves.” In 2025, AMP is continuing to accept rolling nominations throughout the year for Rising Stars, emerging leaders in Member communities and at AMP.
