IMAGINE FOR A MOMENT. THE WORLD WITHOUT WOOD. WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE? Wood is an essential part of American culture, serving many functions, from constructing the houses where we make cherished memories with our loved ones to producing common items like Amazon packages, providing sustainable #renewable energy, and even toothpaste formulas..

关于我们
The American Loggers Council (ALC) is described as “loggers working for loggers.” We are committed to enhancing the logging profession, establishing a more level playing field for professional loggers, and providing accurate information about the logging profession to the forest products companies, landowners, and the public. ALC serves as a national network and communication center, linking local, state and regional organizations around the country. The American Loggers Council is the National Sponsor for Log A Load For Kids?i, a nationwide giving campaign through which loggers and others contribute to local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to provide medical care to kids in need, regardless of their families' ability to pay. 100% of every dollar raised by Log A Load volunteers and events stay in their local community. Log a Load for Kids has raised $50 Million for local CMN hospitals! Learn more at www.amloggers.com

Nick DiLuzi of Forisk researched and found that after Hurricane Helene struck in September of 2024, its impact on Georgia's #agriculture and #forestry. On November 5, the Georgia Forestry Commission and the University of Georgia’s Warnell School released a #Timber Damage Assessment Report, gathering input from affected #mills and landowners. The report revealed that the hurricane impacted 8,931,000 acres of #forestland, about 37% of Georgia's total timberland, with 1.5 million acres suffering severe damage. The Georgia Forestry Commission estimates the economic impact at $1.28 billion, nearly double the $763 million loss from Hurricane Michael in 2018.

These grandstanding conservationists groups show no concern as they witness our national forests being ravaged by #wildfire year after year. As flames consume vast stretches of pristine wilderness, these individuals remain preoccupied with their own image and status, failing to acknowledge the profound impact of their negligence on the #ecosystems that are being destroyed. The beauty and biodiversity of our #forests, which have stood for generations, are reduced to mere background noise in their self-serving narratives, highlighting a troubling disconnect between their words and the reality of the environmental devastation that continues to escalate. #forestmanagement #saveamericanforests

Emily Jo Williams (EJ), passion for #wildlife and her vibrant energy are truly infectious. It feels as if the forest is her true home. For the last 25 years, EJ has committed herself to halting the decline of native bird populations, preserving vital habitats, tackling major threats to these birds, and fostering a nationwide network of bird conservation advocates. Well-managed #forests, which include responsible #logging practices by skilled professionals, provide essential habitats for a variety of bird species as well as numerous other plants and animals. #forestmanagement #saveamericanforests #savewildlife
For the past several years with American Bird Conservancy, I've been able to focus a lot of my time and bird conservation attention on how sustainably managed forests in the U.S. South provide valuable habitats for native birds and how those habitat conditions can be enhanced for birds in need of conservation like Swallow-tailed Kites, Red-headed Woodpeckers, and Bachman's Sparrows. I've been fortunate to work with so many awesome corporate, individual, university, state and federal forest landowners, managers, and experts and will now be fully focused on those bird friendly forests across the Southeast. Thus, my title changes but much of the work that I do with American Bird Conservancy and our many partners will stay the same and hopefully will be even more effective. I'm grateful to ABC for supporting this opportunity for me, and happy to have Jeff Raasch join ABC as the Southeast Region Director. (I even get to take my Norwich terriers, Max and Izzy, with me for some of our forest tours!)

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Weyerhaeuser is reinforcing its presence in Arkansas by committing $500 million to establish a new facility. This significant investment from Weyerhaeuser arrives at an opportune moment for the southern region of the state, particularly following recent closures of plants and mills. In early September, Bryan Carson, the CEO of AHF Products, revealed that numerous workers at their Warren plant would be losing their jobs. The company, which focuses on #hardwood flooring, indicated that the rising costs of #timber and fluctuations in the housing market, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic, were key factors that led to the layoffs. #americanloggers #americanjobs #americanwood #woodproducts

The US Forest Service has unveiled a proposal to amend the Northwest Forest Plan, potentially increasing #logging in Oregon, Washington, and California by up to 200%. This proposal, introduced on Friday, seeks to mitigate rising #wildfire risks and bolster rural economies by offering a more stable #timber supply. Established in 1994, the original plan curtailed logging to protect habitats, like those of the spotted owl. Now, officials argue that active #forestmanagement is essential to enhance forest resiliency in the face of climate change. The draft environmental study suggests that harvesting could rise by at least 33%, correlating with a boost in #timber related employment. The plan includes measures to cut trees in regions with trees up to 120 years old, an increase from the current 80-year limit. These actions, officials say, aim to reduce wildfire threats and promote the growth of fire-resistant old-growth trees by thinning out younger trees. A notable aspect of the new plan is its effort to incorporate tribal knowledge in forest management; tribes were not included in the crafting of the 1994 plan. ?? https://lnkd.in/gj4aYm4M

Tha Alaska Resource Development Council (RDC), with representatives of the fishing, timber, mining, tourism, and oil industries, hosted their 45th Annual Meeting.? With the abundant resources Alaska has, but the current restrictive federal policy blocking the development of opportunities for Alaska and the country (67 Executive Orders from the current Administration “Locking Up” development and projects), the optimism permeated through the event with an expectation of a future supportive focus on “Growing Alaska Through Responsible Resource Development.” The opening Reception “Channeled the Flannel” with a logger chic theme. Messages were shared by the two Alaskan Senators and President Trump, as well as industry representatives, including the ALC. The RDC joined the ALC this year and we appreciated the invitation to attend and learn firsthand about the challenges to Alaska’s timber and forest products industry and how the ALC can help. The RDC model of natural resource coalition building and collaboration across natural resource sectors should be replicated nationally.
