Last week, eight Jewish clergy leaders returned from the Dominican Republic, where they met with human rights activists supported by AJWS. Rabbi Sandra Lawson reflects on the sacred act of remembering histories that have been rewritten or ignored.

This is a difficult moment for human rights, but it is clear that the Jewish social justice community is ready for the fight. It gives me great hope to see so many gifts to fight hunger, poverty, and injustice that will outlast the current political administration and its inhumanity. American Jewish World Service (AJWS)’s work in global human rights has taught us perseverance from partners around the world accustomed to adversity and expert at building movements to repair our broken world. A better world is possible, and this community is building it.
