Advancing Evidence. Improving Lives.
关于我们
Since 1946, the American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been advancing evidence to evolve systems, improve lives, and ultimately create a better, more equitable world. We are a nonprofit research and technical assistance institution working to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our experts in education, health, workforce, human services, and international development follow the evidence to find and apply solutions that will work. Our work helps policymakers make important decisions based on evidence, and we work with leaders, organizations, and communities to create more effective programs. We never stop digging to find what works and where we have more to learn.

#AI is everywhere, from virtual assistants to search engines to customer service. As these tools become more common, it's crucial that we ask ourselves questions about bias, equity, and quality. Four AIR experts, Rachel Garrett, Laura Hamilton, Orrin Murray, and Susan Bowles Therriault, Ed.D. are building guiding principles for using artificial intelligence in #EdResearch to capitalize on benefits and mitigate pitfalls. Accurately identifying Indigenous students in schools not only leads to more culturally responsive education practices, but can give districts access to funding for programs and services that support them. According to the final report from the AIR Equity Initiative-supported Indigenous Student Identification Project, undercounting of Indigenous students in public schools may be as high as 70%. In a new Q&A, AIR's Nara Nayar explains how students are counted, why accurate data matters, and where challenges arise in practice. https://lnkd.in/gn3QV7b2

Shazia Miller, a nationally recognized #education researcher and expert on secondary and postsecondary access and success, joins AIR as a VP in our Human Services Division. In this role, she will lead AIR's efforts to improve systems, policies, programs, and institutions that shape student experiences and opportunities for young adults. Her new position is a homecoming, of sorts: Miller worked for AIR for six years between 2011-2017 designing, conducting, and leading work in different areas of education. We are thrilled to welcome her back as we work to address challenges and explore solutions that can improve lives, strengthen communities, and create a more equitable world. https://bit.ly/3XicEgn

While evidence shows that children who learn in a language they use and understand have more consistent learning gains, many children in multilingual countries continue to learn in unfamiliar languages. ?? The Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) commissioned AIR and Dalberg to study language of instruction policies and practices in Francophone Africa to understand and improve multilingual learning outcomes for students.
