Our team attended one of the discussions at the NSBE 2025 conference called, Can AI Be Used to Reduce Black Maternal Mortality? Maternal mortality remains a global issue, with recent studies highlighting a troubling trend in the United States, where Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women, according to the CDC. Despite most pregnancy-related deaths being preventable, this trend continues to grow, prompting an overview of past and current non-technological recommendations to address it. This session will explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could help reduce Black maternal mortality and gather community insights on this topic. Our team got the opportunity to talk to Louvere Walker-Hannon, huge thank you for inviting us, and allowing us the opportunity to come listen to the discussion. Louvere is an Application Engineering Senior Team Lead at MathWorks. We also talked to Louvere and connected and shared what AIME is and what we do!

It was a pleasure learning about Georgia Tech’s research programs, from their summer undergraduate program called SURE- a 10-week program on their campus in Atlanta, to opportunities in aerospace, biomedical, and mechanical engineering. Georgia Tech is an amazing opportunity for undergraduate engineers to gain experience in a top-ten program and work towards their post grad experience.

Our AIME members at the Chicago NSBE 2025 conference had the amazing opportunity to engage and network with members of GE Aerospace in their Hospitality Suite this evening! We work to provide our members with numerous professional development opportunities, and this is just one of many that this conference has provided our team. Huge thanks to GE Aerospace for hosting this event and Michael Foust for speaking with our team during the networking sessions!

Today our AIME members in Chicago for NSBE 2025 had the opportunity to hear Ruby Brown-Herring (CEO, Wellness Solutions) and Neville Maycock, Jr. (Northrop Grumman- Sr. Director of Engineering: Avionics Integration) speak on mental health and its importance in the workplace. Job stress costs businesses over $300 billion every year, with 3/4 of mental illnesses starting at age 24. Engineers as a whole are especially prone to stressors in the workplace, and measures towards mental health awareness are critical in the digital age. By keeping your well-being in mind and talking to trusted friends or family, one can reduce the impacts that stressors have on the health of our mind. Post talk, our members got to have a conversation with Neville Maycock, Jr. about future collaborations with AIME and how we can grow as an organization. Thanks to Neville and Ruby for this insightful talk!

One of AIME’s members, Tejas Shah, pictured at the Power lunch with Eaton Eaton is a power management company that develops electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical products and services. Their products are used in many industries, including transportation, energy, and technology. Tejas: Had an exciting lunch with Eaton, learning about their excellent work culture and how their company supports them for their career growth. Talked to someone working with supply chain engineering and learned a lot about how to talk to recruiters and make yourself heard.

AIME members at the NSBE 2025 conference visited the Hitachi Hospitality Suite! What Hitachi offers: Products and services Hitachi Construction Machinery is a global leader in manufacturing construction equipment, including excavators, wheel loaders, and dump trucks. Hitachi is involved in digital systems, including information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). Hitachi is involved in power and renewable energy. Hitachi is involved in healthcare products. Hitachi is involved in railway systems. Hitachi is involved in financial systems. Our members had the opportunity to talk to recruiters one on one, and get to know more about opportunities at Hitachi. Recruiters gave advice on how to look for jobs and how to take advantage of opportunities, through this exclusive networking opportunity!

Day 2 at the NSBE 2025 conference! AIME members were invited to a Hospitality Suite by Edwards Lifesciences. Members had the opportunity to talk to different recruiters and take part in a discussion panel. The discussion was about how the panel of engineers knew Edwards Lifesciences was the right fit for them, when they were looking for jobs right after college. The panel also discussed about how to find jobs and what students need to look for. Our members had a great time learning about the company and chatting with the recruiters and taking part in the discussion!

Our group had the opportunity to attend a talk at the NSBE 2025 conference, Creating your Own Lane: the Journey of Entrepreneurship. The talk was about how one starts their journey, and where to find ideas, and then how to take them from an idea to a real life company/product. The panel of entrepreneurs offered a great info session and post-talk question panel for students to ask questions about their experiences in entrepreneurship.

AIME is attending the National Society of Black Engineers and Scientists(NSBE) Conference in Chicago! NSBE supports and empowers engineers and scientists through academic, professional, and leadership development.
