AIMU proudly announces that Andrew Garger and Dennis Marvin were elected as honorary members of AIMU yesterday in recognition of their contributions to AIMU and the marine insurance industry overall. Both Andy and Dennis will be retiring at the end of the year after long and successful careers in the industry. Congratulations to Julie Vogele and F. Michael Falvey who were named AIMU’s Distinguished Service Award winners for 2024 for their dedicated service to AIMU and the broader marine insurance industry. AIMU held our Annual General Meeting yesterday to update the membership on key developments during 2024 and plans for the next year.?Thank you to Taylor Albright Solaja and the team at Aon for the use of their conference venue for close to 150 attendees. Thank you to our keynote speaker, Shailesh Kumar from The Hartford, for a thought-provoking presentation. It was an insightful look at how changes to the world economic order, countries demographics,?inflation, and tariffs affect global trade and readjust flow of goods and shipping routes. The predicted outlook for 2025 was optimistic, albeit with caveats. The Introduction to Static Risk Insurance: Warehouse Basics class returns after a 2-year hiatus! The virtual course, scheduled for October 13 at 1pm, will cover the basic underwriting concepts related to Static Risk exposures for cargo taken out of the due course of transit and stored in warehouses or storage facilities. Items covered will be Underwriting considerations, COPE, clause/form language, risk management techniques, warehouse provider contractual obligations, NAT CAT considerations and claims amongst others. Case studies will be reviewed to provide practical knowledge and application of the material.
