关于我们
American Friends of the Louvre (AFL) is a tax-exempt charity organized in the United States. It was established to strengthen ties between the Louvre and the American public and to formalize the longstanding generosity of American patrons. Founded in 2002, its offices opened in New York in 2004 and were expanded to Los Angeles in 2016. Through its support, AFL raises awareness of the Louvre’s collections and museum expertise and helps make the Museum’s exhibitions and permanent collections more accessible in the U.S. and around the world.

Last month, American Friends of the Louvre was in Paris with members for the Paris Pilgrimage, an annual rite of passage that provides AFL members with exclusive access to museums and institutions and rare opportunities to visit private collections. On behalf of everyone at AFL, thank you to all of our generous hosts who made the trip remarkable, including Musée du Louvre, Présidence de la République, Ritz Paris, Centre Pompidou, Chateau de Versailles, Petit Palais, and Mobilier national

The American Friends of the Louvre values its ongoing partnership with Embassy of France in the United States, which enhances our efforts to promote French culture in the United States and support cross-cultural dialogue in parallel to the Musée du Louvre. Recently, AFL Board Chairman Christopher "Kip" Forbes and Executive Director Thomas E. Moore III had the privilege of meeting with His Excellency Laurent Bili, the French Ambassador to the U.S.; Consul General of France in New York (Consulate of France in New York ) Cédrik Fouriscot; and Cultural Counselor of France in the US and Director of Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, Mohamed Bouabdallah. Together, we look forward to further strengthening our relationship through the transformative power of art and culture.

It was a pleasure to work on this event with our incredible partners and colleagues at Consulate General of France in Los Angeles and Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education. Merci a tous!
American Friends of the Louvre was pleased to partner with Consulate General of France in Los Angeles for an engaging conference and reception held at the French Residence in Beverly Hills. Thank you to The Honorable Julie Duhaut-Bedos for her generous hospitality! Moderated by Dr. Rachel Rivenc from the Getty Research Institute, the discussion explored the critical subject of?provenance?in the art world, with contributions from Dr. Emmanuelle Polack of the Musée du Louvre and Dr. Sandra van Ginhoven of the Getty Research Institute. Referred to as the Musée du Louvre's own art?sleuth?by the?The New York Times, Dr. Emmanuelle Polack has been the public face of the Museum's efforts to return artwork that was stolen during World War II by the Nazis. The Louvre is currently the steward of over 1,700 works of art that have been identified as looted; and is seeking to find and encourage the descendants of the works’ original owners to reclaim their inheritance. ? Dr. Polack was selected as the third-annual LA Resident so that she can continue this essential research by reviewing auction records stored in the Provenance Index at the Getty Research Institute. Can't wait to see this landmark exhibition this fall in Paris. AFL is proud to serve a small part in this massive undertaking.
This fall eight Parisian museums will co-exhibit “Quand un Noeud est Dénoué, un Dieu est Libéré,” (“When a Knot is Untied, a God is Freed”), a landmark exhibition of work by Barbara Chase-Riboud?(board 1939), an American artist who has lived in Paris since 1961. The exhibition will present a series of monumental sculptures in bronze and silk, as well as the artist’s poems and drawings, created from 1958 to the present. Each sculpture was paired with a specific institution, which allows the viewer to interpret the works in the context of?Riboud’s life and practice in Paris. Two works from?Riboud’s “Cleopatra” series will be installed in the Musée du Louvre's Antiquities galleries, while for the first time in the Museum’s history, a third work will be installed under the Pyramid. The exhibition will be on view at the Louvre from October 9 through January 6.?Riboud’s artwork will also be installed at Centre Pompidou; Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet; Musée d'Orsay; Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac; Palais de la Porte Dorée; Palais de Tokyo; and LA CITE DE LA MUSIQUE - PHILHARMONIE DE PARIS. This exhibition is organized by Erin Gilbert and Donatien Grau.?This exhibition is sponsored by the generous leadership of the Ford Foundation and the Terra Foundation for American Art.
