We based the AFV Advisory Network on a truth: no one has all the answers, but with the right people around, you sure can find them. We surround our portco founders with a community of advisors with deep expertise in highly relevant fields. The challenges a founder faces may feel new to them, but they aren't new to others, and our advisors are here to shine a light. AFV's Stephanie (Oslie) Mueller took time to sit with four of our advisors - Christopher Conti, Joan Lamm-Tennant, PhD, Naveen Agarwal, and Jack Butcher - to get their thoughts on industry developments and where digital transformation is taking us. It's a privilege to be able to tap into these advisors and hear where they see insurance going - a privilege we are proud to extend to our founders and our portfolio. Read more below:

Some great news today from Ben Yoskovitz and Marcus Daniels - and a preview of things to come with AFV's Dan Reed. Stay tuned!
Today is the day. After almost ten years building Highline Beta with Marcus Daniels, we've decided to launch a podcast and content series called, "Beyond the Core". ?? We've learned a ton through experimentation and evolving the venture studio model to build + fund companies, often alongside corporate partners. "Beyond the Core" is our way of synthesizing those experiences and lessons learned with great guests that have a ton to share. Our first episode is with Kal Amin, Managing Partner at 1848 Ventures. If you want to understand how corporate venture studios work, listen to Kal. We've got a ton of great guests lined up, including Mike Dobbins, Leandro Balbinot, Amar Varma, Dan Magnuszewski, Brice Scheschuk, CPA, CA, Dan Reed and many others. All executive leaders that have lived in the trenches building new ventures, corporate studios, corporate venture capital groups and more. Our goal is to make this practical and inspirational -- not just sharing the wins, but the challenges too. Corporate innovation in any form is tough. "Beyond the Core" will provide tons of real life stories on how it gets done. We're publishing through a variety of formats: ?? Weekly podcast (audio + video on Spotify, Youtube and Apple) ?? Daily short-form video clips (on LinkedIn; like the one attached here!) ?? Weekly newsletter and blog for distilling key takeaways I hope you'll check it out! Share feedback with us (be gentle, we're new at this!) Share potential guests with us. Comment ??

We are thrilled to share Grace Hanson's post and big news about Elysian. Grace and her team are bringing claims into the future, unleashing the power of AI to handle what technology does best and focusing the talents of adjusters on the areas where they shine. AFV is proud to be partners with Elysian, and we're excited to be on this journey with them!
Today, I'm thrilled to introduce Elysian—a ground-up AI-orchestrated TPA—backed by $3M in pre-seed funding led by American Family Ventures, co-founded by myself and Dinyar Mistry. Elysian will handle commercial liability claims starting Jan 1, powered by our proprietary AI Claim Conductor. We’ve been heads down, but a recent chat with Zap ?? (one of our angels) and Benjamin Wong (my Chief of Staff, ex-The D. E. Shaw Group) prompted me to raise the curtain. Why have we kept a low profile? ?? We wanted to deliver something genuinely different. As a former CCO at Allied World, Homesite Insurance, Hiscox, and Hippo Insurance, I've engaged with over 500 TPAs. I know the varying quality in those services. ?? We didn’t want to join the growing body of companies that provide limited AI capabilities. It’s relatively simple to build something with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google. It’s more challenging to rethink system design. ?? As a former commercial insurance litigator, I know that using AI in complex claims handling demands unwavering commitment to ethical principles and expert human oversight. That's why we wanted to assemble an exceptional team.?And we are succeeding. Our founding technologists bring broad and deep AI expertise: — Kashif Razzaqui, our CTO, joins us from Meta where he built the high volume AI infra powering Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — Kojo Hinson built the foundation for Koodoo’s AI platform and led teams building multimodal AI products at VEED.IO — Dylan Hanson built NLP systems at Kennedys, Vanderbilt University, and Columbia University before working in fintech automation at Bloomberg. Dylan is also my son, which has proved highly convenient! Our claims leadership brings multi-product expertise: — Steve Rodriguez, former claims executive at Hippo Insurance, Sedgwick, QBE Insurance, CNA Insurance, AIG, and Travelers — Erin Bornholm, who has been crucial to setting up our claims handling strategy & operations? — Betsy Duncan who brings deep expertise in multiple lines of businesses Elysian emerged from my experience that #insurance claims handling today is broken. Adjusters serve as data entry techs, customer service reps, lawyers, negotiators, report writers, and psychologists—all with piecemeal technological support. As a result, handling costs remain high, liability loss costs continue to rise, and adjusters are fleeing the industry. I’ve always loved #claims, and it has broken my heart to watch this happen.? Elysian’s north star is simple—reimagining claims handling from first principles to create a hybrid intelligence system that is foundationally machine-driven, human-empowering. This combination allows us to deliver exceptional outcomes. Our system uses #AI to handle the ‘messy middle’ of claims, allowing our expert adjusters to manage only the ‘human’ parts. To learn more, visit us at https://elysian.is, shoot me a message, or schedule a call with Kurt Jackson: https://elys.to/meet
