"In a memorable address entitled Beware of Pride, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and religious leader President Ezra Taft Benson stated, “Pride adversely affects all our relationships—our relationship with God and His servants, between husband and wife, parent and child.” In what follows, we explore more closely the evidence in family narratives that demonstrates the healing force of humility to combat the stumbling block of pride in parent-child relationships." Laura McKeighen reads the article, "The Healing Power of Humility in Parent-Child Relationships" which was originally published in Public Square Magazine on October 6, 2022. https://lnkd.in/gA49yEZ8

The American Families of Faith Project is a national research project led by David C. Dollahite, PhD and Loren D. Marks, PhD, both professors of family life at Brigham Young University. Dr. Dollahite and Dr. Marks and a number of key collaborators have conducted in-depth interviews with more than 300 religious couples and families with adolescent children (nearly 500 individuals) from 33 states in all 8 regions of the United States including New England (MA, CT), the Northwest (OR, WA), the Pacific region (CA), the Mountain West (ID, UT), the Mid Atlantic (DE, MD, PA), the Midwest (OH, WI), and the Southern Crossroads region (KS, OK), and the South (FL, GA, LA). Over half the families are from various ethnic, national, and cultural minorities. The sample includes around 30 couples/families from each of the following religious-ethnic groups: Asian Christian, Black Christian, Catholic & Orthodox Christian, Evangelical Christian, Hispanic Christian, Jewish, Latter-day Saint, Mainline Protestant, and Muslim. We recently have interviewed about 30 Unaffiliated couples and 32 Interfaith couples and will begin publishing about our findings soon.

The American Families of Faith Project explores the influence of religion on marital and parent-child relationships within Asian American Christian families. In-depth interviews were conducted with 24 immigrant families.
