America’s Egg Farmers and Emily Metz were honored to host First Lady Dr. Jill Biden for a tour of Outward Farms in Raymond, Ohio. Egg farmers have an incredible, decades-long partnership with the White House Easter Egg Roll, a beloved family event celebrated annually on the White House lawn and hosted by the President and First Lady. Outward Farms is an innovative, USDA Certified Organic cage-free family farm that is proud to provide Americans with a wholesome, nutritious protein source. For this third-generation farm, a visit from the First Lady was quite the privilege! Founder, President and CEO Sandra Lausecker—an American Egg Board member– gave Dr. Biden a firsthand look inside her family farm. From hen houses to egg processing, Lausecker shared the farm’s story and highlighted how she brings egg farmers’ values to life in the work they do each day. As temperatures cool down and the holiday season approaches, global comfort foods are on tables everywhere. But Nooish founder Sarah Nathan noticed something missing: "There is for sure Jewish food that lives outside of the kosher aisle, but many of those products are niche ingredients like spices or tahini. Having been the frozen buyer for National Grocers I didn’t want to do (a) frozen or refrigerated (product).... Then matzo ball soup came to mind.” NOOISH is bringing matzo ball soup to kicthens everywhere, in a convenient format similar to ramen cups. Simply add water, pop it in the microwave, and you've got delicious warm soup ready to go. The American Egg Board's Eggcelerator Lab team, in partnership with CuliNEX - Your Food Innovation Partner, was proud to assist in the development of this innovative new product, bringing "comfort in a cup" to tables everywhere! It’s been a busy couple of months for the American Egg Board’s Nick Jones, who’s been busy building relationships and exploring partnership opportunities abroad for America’s egg farmers. Earlier this month, Nick embarked on his second trade mission since joining AEB, accompanying Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor and?ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, in-country regional USDA FAS counselors, and other leaders from across the agriculture sector. The mission started in Ho Chi Minh City and worked their way north to Hanoi, connecting with key importers?and learning about opportunities, challenges, regional and local market conditions along the way. ? The delegation had a full schedule, complete with site visits, briefings, and cultural experiences on top of meetings with business leaders to explore opportunities in this vibrant market. ? It’s an honor to serve America’s egg farmers—who provide the world with one of nature’s most nutrient-dense foods. ?

Let's talk about egg prices. As producers of one of nature’s most perfect foods, packed with nutrients and protein, egg farmers understand how important it is to keep an abundant, affordable supply of nutritious eggs in retail cases. And in their own communities, egg farmers are hearing from their friends and neighbors about higher-than-average costs for food and staples at the store and the strain it puts on families across the United States. As food costs continue to be part of our nation’s conversations, it’s a good time to get smart about on how eggs are priced, straight from the farms and the farmers who produce them: ? Wholesale egg prices are not set by farmers but are determined based on supply and demand in the egg market, like other commodity products. ?Egg farmers do not determine retail prices for eggs, and grocery prices for eggs can fluctuate, just like the market, and by retailer decisions on marketing and promotion. ?Consumer demand throughout the year affects how eggs are priced. For example, egg prices during the holidays are often higher than in the summer, as people buy more eggs for baking and entertaining, which can sometimes increase prices, if demand outpaces supply. ?With 6g of protein and only 70 calories in one large egg, eggs remain a great value at the grocery store and are one of the highest-quality proteins available. In a recent analysis by USDA, for the majority of the period from 2021 to now, eggs remained near or at the top of selected livestock, poultry and egg products in affordability per gram of protein. ?The U.S. egg supply has been impacted by an ongoing outbreak of bird flu, which has intermittently disrupted the available egg supply. This can result in temporary price changes that should correct over time as affected farmers resume egg production. Our farms have recovered much faster than those impacted in 2015 thanks to rigorous planning and preparedness, coupled with strong relationships with federal and state authorities. There is good news:? Our national flock of egg-laying hens remains at about 300 million, nearly one bird for every American. And while we may experience times of higher egg prices, the nutritional value of eggs remains a great value for consumers. A dozen large eggs is 1.5 pounds of high-quality protein that is versatile and delicious, and as we enter the final months of the year and the holiday cooking and baking season, know that America’s egg farmers are doing all they can to keep a plentiful supply of eggs available for those who love them.?
