As the U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with the Institute of International Education (IIE), launches the 75th annual Open Doors Report during International Education Week (IEW), exciting news has emerged: a record-breaking 1.12 million international students studied at U.S. colleges and universities during the 2023-2024 academic year. This milestone underscores the global appeal of U.S. higher education as a destination for learning, innovation, and opportunity. Amid positive global trends, the American Councils-administered EducationUSA Centers in 12 countries across Eurasia and Central Asia have played a pivotal role in driving important regional growth. According to the IIE Open Doors data 2024, the region reported exceptional increases in student mobility. Kyrgyzstan led with a remarkable 38.6% growth, followed by Turkmenistan (27.1%), Azerbaijan (25.4%), and impressive contributions from Georgia (19.1%) and Tajikistan (16.5%). Key contributors like Kazakhstan (11.1%) and Ukraine (5.4%) continued to grow steadily, while even smaller countries such as Belarus and Moldova showed encouraging progress. Perfectly aligned with IEW’s 2024 theme, #Explore, the EducationUSA Centers have expanded access to U.S. higher education opportunities through technology-forward programming—including virtual advising, cohort advising models, and targeted outreach. These efforts have empowered thousands of students, particularly from rural areas, underserved communities, and diverse backgrounds, to achieve their educational dreams. Looking ahead to 2025, American Councils is set to further enhance its efforts by pioneering a cross-regional, collaborative approach to EducationUSA programming. This forward-thinking strategy will expand access, amplify impact, and inspire even more students across Eurasia and Central Asia to explore international education opportunities. #IEW2024 #ExchangeOurWorld #EducationUSA #ACGlobal #InternationalEducation #OpenDoors #OpenDoorsReport

I am officially the U.S. Department of State’s and the United States of America’s child!!! The support I have received since being part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is unmatched. To be supported by several United States of America embassies across Africa - The U.S Embassy Pretoria, The U.S. Embassy South Africa, The U.S Embassy African Union, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is something I do not take for granted. I am a child of the village. It takes a village to raise a child and also takes the same village to sustain the adult. I am forever grateful for the life changing experience being an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumna. I am forever grateful ???? The event highlighted the incredible work of IVLP alumna Mary Izobo, who is making a transformative impact in communities across South Africa. Congratulations International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumna Annie Liao ???? for being recognized on the Forbes Australia 30 under 30 list! #ExchangeAlumni - Alumni Affairs - State Dept.
Sometimes, life can work in funny ways. Today, my journey through this has named me in Forbes Australia’s inaugural 30 under 30 list. I’m insanely humbled and grateful for this. Looking back, my story is not conventional into being a founder - but it does show with hard work and a bit of luck you can do anything. Growing up it was an expectation I would be a doctor, dentist or lawyer. Thankfully, my siblings took these roles on quite literally. So, I was left to find what I wanted to do in life that would still 'impress my parents'... Not many know but I started working full time when I was in first year of university where I joined an AI team at Westpac and learnt to code. When I graduated, I had three years of full-time work experience, had been accelerate promoted 2x and landed a job at one of the most prestigious firms in the world Boston Consulting Group (BCG). But still didn’t know what I wanted to do in life. I eventually fell in love with the world of builders through my time as a VC investor and also, AI again - this was something that was so core to my career early on. It was incredible seeing people change their lives when they feel empowered to create and build something. I founded Build Club with the mission to enable more people to build their dreams into reality. AI is one of the biggest enablers of this ?. And now we are not only building community but an ecosystem. - Being on this year's Forbes 30 under 30 doesn’t mean I have reached all my life goals yet. It’s an affirmation that I’m treading closer to doing something impactful in the world. I know there is still good, hard work to be done, and we are far from the vision which we envision for Build Club. We want to create the next wave of AI, not just ride it. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, the community at Build Club, my teams and family for loving me unconditionally. Hopefully sharing my story will inspire others like me to dream bigger too. s/o - Julia French, Lauren Capelin, Jacqui Duncan, Anastasia Santoreneos, Elicia McDonald, Tom Humphrey, Daniel Lord-Doyle and more ?? ?? This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), which focused on Agriculture, Trade and Food. Over three enriching weeks, alongside 13 other professionals from around the world, we traveled to five U.S. cities—Washington D.C., Cleveland, Des Moines, New Orleans, and Orlando—to explore key aspects of the U.S. agricultural sector. The program provided a deep dive into topics like agricultural policies, food safety, trade promotion, sustainable agriculture, and farm-to-table initiatives. We met with federal, state and local government officials, including the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative and the Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, visited urban farms, engaged with nonprofit organizations and community projects, and participated in insightful discussions on the 2024 Farm Bill and federalism. One of the most memorable moments was in Des Moines, where we had the unique opportunity to participate in a home hospitality program. This allowed us to share a meal and meaningful conversations with local families, gaining firsthand insights into the daily lives and perspectives of Iowans. A special thank you to the U.S. Department of State (Anne Jeliazkov), American Councils (Nathan Eckman), the local program coordinators, and our fantastic liaisons, Marc and Jon (Jonathan Ward), for guiding us throughout this journey. I also extend my gratitude to the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels (Trip Taylor, Elisa F., Lazaro Sandoval) for nominating me. It was a privilege to connect with such passionate professionals, and I look forward to building on these insights in my work in agricultural policy. ??
