Last week, the ACPA team was excited to join at the 45th Annual Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Conference hosted by the Missouri/Kansas ACPA chapter. ACPA's President and CEO Laura O'Neill Kaumo provided an update from National while Gary Mitchell participated in a General Aviation Concrete Paving Workshop and Eric Ferrebee presented on the Evolution of Concrete Pavement Design. February is a busy workshop season for our industry, but ACPA appreciates connecting with all our chapters, state associations, and industry partners! #acpaontheroad

Excited to celebrate with you and the Dare County Airport.
When you arrive in Manteo, NC, you quickly begin to feel the rich history. The establishment of the first English colony, the birth of Virgina Dare and of course the mystery of “the lost colony”. For aviation enthusiasts, the first successful airplane flight occurred in nearby Kitty Hawk, December 1903. Not even 40 years later, the airport on Dare County was established and many acres of concrete were placed to support Naval operations during World War II. If you wish to learn more about the history of the airport, click https://lnkd.in/dtkKRvfm Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting the ACPA National Lifetime Pavement Recognition Award to Dare County Airport Manager, Stacy Ambrose and several of the airport authority members. Thank you to ACPA-SE board member, Gus Ward of Roanoke Cement company for joining me. We had a lot of fun seeing the airport and meeting the airport authority members. One even remembered coming to the airport in the late 1940’s as a young lad and running around on the concrete pavement. The National award is presented to an agency/owner of an in-service concrete pavement that has demonstrated exceptional performance for its state, community and local users. While the renovations for the airport were completed in 2022, the pavement at this airport serves as a great story telling the benefits and longevity of concrete pavement. If you wish to learn more about the apron renovations and why the airport authority wanted to build back with concrete, visit https://lnkd.in/d6GTrsup #airfield #concrete #pavement #resilient #longlasting American Concrete Pavement Association North Carolina Airports Association
