关于我们
ACOFP is a community of current and future family physicians that champions osteopathic principles and supports its members by providing resources such as advocacy, education, and networking while putting patients first. Founded in 1950, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) represents more than 20,000 practicing osteopathic family physicians, residents and students in the United States. Osteopathic Family Physicians are DOs (Doctors of Osteopathy) who specialize in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, a method in which they use their hands to diagnose and treat the patient, giving particular attention to joints, bones, muscles and nerves. DOs promote a patient-centered approach to medical care.

Incorporating Global Health and International Medicine Curriculums in Family Medicine Residencies ?? "With the growth of immigrant communities in the United States, as well as need for more physicians to care for underserved/isolated communities, understanding the benefits and challenges of global health education would be beneficial not only for training physicians but also for residency programs." Bryson Rose, OMS-II, is the president of the VCOM Carolinas - Spartanburg, SC ACOFP Student Chapter! His favorite thing about Osteopathic family medicine: "Family medicine is a unique specialty in that we will see patients of all kinds with all sorts of presentations. I believe the osteopathic philosophy is the best foundation for treating each patient with the best care possible because it leaves no stone unturned when it comes to getting to the root of the issue. It’s not a matter of just alleviating the symptoms, but a chance to diagnose the true underlying cause." What a typical day looks like in his life as a student: "I like to keep my daily schedule as balanced as possible. Usually, I go to classes in the morning, enjoy a lunch break, and then attend an anatomy lab or an OMM lab in the afternoon. I always try to incorporate something active like weightlifting or pickleball with friends as well. After classes, and around the physical activity, I will pack in my studying and try to finish at a reasonable hour of the night." If he could meet one famous dead person, it would be: "Leonardo da Vinci. He was quite literally the archetype of the “Renaissance Man” and I’ve always been amazed by his inventiveness and creativity in the arts. Plus, taking a quick vacation to renaissance Italy would be a huge bonus." The first time he realized he wanted to be a physician: "I knew I wanted to be a physician when I realized the life-changing impact that I can have as a doctor and the widespread capabilities I will be trained and licensed to use. I know that my goal is to help my patients to the best of my ability, and I love the idea of having an extensive skill set and knowledge base that will help me accomplish this goal." #memberspotlight
