The foundation of transformed and sustainable health care - lifestyle interventions for disease treatment and reversal.

关于我们

ACLM is the medical professional society for those dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. We are an internationally recognized provider of quality education and certification for those who seek to provide whole-person, root-cause care to patients. Unlike typical healthcare, lifestyle medicine focuses on collaborative patient-provider relationships and positive, evidence-based lifestyle changes as the basis of care. This broader range of treatment options empowers patients with hope and control over their health. Lifestyle Medicine is a branch of evidence-based medicine in which comprehensive lifestyle changes (including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, social support and environmental exposures) are used to help treat, reverse, and prevent the progression of many chronic diseases. Can Lifestyle Medicine Training Transform Military Health? A study by Jeffrey J. Smith, DSW, LCSW, DipACLM, highlights a critical gap: military physicians feel underprepared to deliver lifestyle medicine (LM) interventions. Presented at #LM2024, the research surveyed 352 military physicians and found low confidence in addressing key LM pillars like stress management (42%), physical activity (48%), and nutrition (45%). Despite this, 80% agreed LM interventions are vital for service members' readiness and resilience. Why does this matter? LM training could equip military physicians to better support service members and their families, improving health outcomes and mission readiness. Could a plant-based diet slow cancer risk progression? A new study led by Urvi Shah at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center shows that patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and elevated BMI who followed a structured, high-fiber, plant-based diet saw significant health benefits—including reduced BMI, enhanced metabolic markers, and improved microbiome diversity. Presented at #LM2024, the study compared patients who received personalized diet counseling and prepared meals to those with standard dietary guidance. The results? Patients on the structured diet had sustained improvements in BMI and quality of life, with some maintaining a 7-8% BMI reduction for a year. Read more from Healio: https://lnkd.in/gqX9b6MH
